The bits just gone past

Sep 25, 2006 23:56

So it's been a hell of a thing.

The past weekend and little more have been interesting and noteworthy. Hence me here telling you all, (and rightly chronicling for myself).

Ok. First of all, no cuts today, they're a pain and I don't post enough to merit them.

Here we go. I'm gonna go chronologically at first. Seems to make sense even if certain events might be seen as so important as to merit their primacy. Today, this is how I will roll.

On Friday night I went to see a show with Amy, Jamie, and Ryan (the same two who were involved in the previously mentioned punching incident. He is healed but flinchy. I experimented) in Toronto at the Mod Club. It was our first time there and quite the nice setup. We got there super early due to an internet info discrepancy, and were able to unwittingly sit ourselves in the VIP area. Miniature bacon cheeseburgers, portobello samiches, and hotdogs on croissants were brought to us throughout the evening, and better yet, we could come and go from the cushy area as we pleased. It seems the burly man guarding the entrance assumed we had started out in there for a reason, even with our lack of gaudy VIP ID's. If only the drinks had been free. Great view, comfy sitting, and constant platters of munchies while we watched Land of Talk, Shout Out Out Out Out, and Holy Fuck play their brains out. A good evening. Vodka tonics were consumed.

Saturday night was the UFC event. Steevo, Mike and I got a table at Philthy's and some pitchers while we watched men tear into each other. It was a good event, better than the last co uple. It was a shame to see BJ Penn TKO'd by Hughes after his two stellar first rounds. Then again this leaves him ripe picking for m'man Georges St. Pierre. November my friends. That should be a party. Beer was consumed.

Sunday was the doozie. Most of the day was dedicated to
Shawn and
Christine's wedding which was a wonderful time. They both looked great and super excited. I couldn't be happier for them. All the buddies at the wedding looked really good all duded up as well. I'll try and post some pictures.
It was a short and sweet service followed by a helluva reception. Apparently all the drunks were sat at good ol' table 3 right next to the bar. And boy did we drink. It didn't help that the jovial Italian gorilla of a bartender was all to happy to keep feeding them to us. As at any Italian-run wedding in Hamilton, there was an obscene amount of food. It was all delicious too. I got to meet couple of Shawn and Christine's larp buddies who came from the states, Steve and Mitz (sp?), who were a great time. Good proponents of don't bring up larping in any social setting. Unfortunately Shawn and Christine's parents did that for us. We proceeded to sink under the tables followed by more drinking. Then the crazy Italian gorilla of a bartender sang an Italian love song to the Bride and Groom (Apparently it was from the Godfather) That was damn awesome. And all before 9 o'clock

For at 9 I had to split to make the Isis show downtown. I felt kind of lame but seeing a favourite like Isis in a venue as small as the underground was something I just wasn't willing to pass up.
Steevo (who was quite under the weather) and I split a cab, and I paid as far as the UG. and Proceeded into a metal show in my wedding attire. I felt delightfully out of place and delightfully drunk. I quickly met up with some concert-going buddies who hooked me up with some Canajun bounty (knowhatImsayinknowwhatImsayin). I made it in time to see most of "Crux of Aux" who impressed the shit out of me. Basically steady rug-a-chug-chugging with no vocals or the meedly-meeing of more standard metal. It was super complex and super good. And some of the most downright heavy music I've heard in along time.

Then Isis came on and blew my fucking brains out.

Seriously. That one goes into my top one concerts of all time. I did more appreciative and violent headbanging than I've done in a good while. When they whipped out In Fiction I thought my end was nigh. Too too good.

I need access to more open bars before amazing concerts.

so yeah basically I think yesterday was one of the best days of all. There was lots of contented sighing going on as I got home.

Wow. It's late and there's school in the morn. I wanted to do a post on just how... visceral the preview for 300 that
Jamie posted made me feel. I'll try and get around to that soon.
Made me want to go out and be super-manly. Whoa step off you feminists. I appreciate the society we live in and look forward to even more progression with how things have been going. But I'll be fucking god-damned if being a man and howling at the oncoming hordes doesn't mean anything.

Be well everyone. Life is good.
