Doin's that transpire

It was a good weekend.

Preceding that, I started school again this week. I'm pretty excited though I balk at the essay load.

Intro to Archaeology. Just your basic first year intro. Archaelogy intrigues me as some of the old cultures that interest me most haven't really left much of a written record. And Roman villifying doesn't count.

Canadian History - Beginnings to 1885. Should be good. I've always felt pretty guilty that have no grounding in the history of my own peeps.I've learned some damn fascinating stuff already.

European International Relations from 1870 - 1945. Really neat stuff from what I've been reading of the texts so far. Basically gets into how the "Great Powers" of Europes hurtled themselves towards World War 1. Then all the fun stuff that let Hitler temper tantrum his way into killing millions of people.

Roman Imperialism. Arguably I'm most excited about this one. Pretty self explanatory in its title. It didn't fully sink in until I went and bought the texts. One of them is this huge hardback, beautifully illustrated, called "The Complete Roman Army". Booyah.

European Reformations. My 4th year seminar course. I have my first class of that this evening. Should be a doozie. This one I have all year.

Went to an engagement party on Friday night for friends Ryan and Jamie. That was fun. They rented out the top floor of the Caleidh House at Hess Village. Drinking ensued. However, I heard a couple days later that when Ryan and Jamie left, Ryan got punched repeatedly in the head by some douchebag on Hess that he had brushed shoulders with. Hospitalized with a concussion and everything. Doesn't remember anything of the night after leaving the bar. People are such Fucks.

Saturday was Shawn's re-bachelor party. That was an amazing time. We had a poker tournament at his parents' place and everyone (including his parents) got completely ripped. The (designated) drive home was awesome. In Flames never sounded so good.

Sunday was the finals for Pride FC's open-weight tournament. (spoilers ahead!) It was thrilling to watch Mirko Filopovich completely dominate the competition. He exuded the confidence and work he'd put into winning the thing. Each of the 4 fights he participated in throughout the tournament he ended in the 1st round with his amazing strikes. And it seemed fitting that he finish Silva with his patented left high kick. I've never seen Wandy so dominated. It was a pretty hard fight to watch as I enjoy both fighters so much.
It always strikes me how Mirko makes fighters play his game. He's gotta be the most successful kickboxer in the MMA biz. All thanks to that godlike sprawl of his.

It was good to see Shogun fighting again. It was fun to watch him come back to deliver the ol' Shoote Boxe stomp to the can that Pride had delivered up.

My Jiu Jitsu classes slowed for a few weeks due to end-of-summer conflicts, but I'm working it into my schedule on a pretty strict basis for the school year. Should be fun.

Amy's started school full-time, as has my brother. It's cool to have them both at Mac. Bike building still goes on part-time.

I went up to Manitoulin Island with Amy a few weeks ago. It was interesting to see where she grew up. Pretty beautiful, especially around its many lakes. Caught some yummy rainbow trout too.

Off I go.
