So here I am; for the first time this school year I am officially swamped.
It doesn't help that I've got an attention span shorter than my cat's and read at a snail's pace, but I'd hoped to be father ahead than I am now. It's still better than it's been. Less of a soul-crushing sense of inevitable defeat and more a sense of blind panic. Yet I'm always just calm enough to procrastinate a little more. (Hence this entry)
I've got a report on Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs, and Steel" due on Tuesday that I need to start... Interesting read. It's basically the history of the world through environmental determinism, though he'd be loathe to admit it. The Europeans rose to power because they were in the right place at the right time and inherited and invented all the right technologies. Again, really interesting book, but you have to plow through some bits. It reads like a lab report. And it doesn't really give people enough credit. He is a scientist before a historian though.
I've also got a midterm on monday on my U.S. geography class. Now that's something that's drier than I'd hoped. Though when I think about it, I'm not sure exactly what exciting content I could have expected.
Oops late for class. More school rumblings later.
