Well, after talking about it for a year and a half, I'm finally living in Chicago. This has been a very strange experience, so far. I'm living in one of the greatest cities in the world, but living a very mundane life. I mean, it makes sense, I'm sure that most people in New York and Tokyo just go to work, come home, make dinner, and go to bed early most days. That's basically all that I've been doing since I moved here. It is cool, though, that I can just jump on the train and go just about anywhere in the city. I'm ten minutes away from some of the best bars, restaurants, museums, etc, the you can find anywhere in the country.
I've also totally severed ties with someone who was probably the most abusive, manipulative person that I have ever dated. It feels really good to be absolutely single for the first time in years and years. I've attempted dating here. I'm not sure. I went on one date, and she was very funny, and charming, and pretty. It was a lot of fun, and we ended up making out right on Dearborn. It was all very rom-comy. Then, I never contacted her again. I think I encouraged myself to start dating because this is a new city, and I don't know anyone here. I'm not going to meet a woman and two months into the relationship find out that she's fucked half of my friends (before or during us dating) and that was just something that was almost guaranteed in Lansing. There are 3 million people in this city, and I don't know a single one of them. But, I think I'm going to use this new transition to break some bad habits. I'm not going to start dating the first woman that I develop feelings for. I think I'm going to go like, 6 months without going on a single date. I'm just going to live my life, and not bring anyone else into my bullshit. I've dated three people since my last serious relationship ended, and all three relationships have been absolute disasters.
Overall, I think this move is going to do me a lot of good. I'm going to do at least five years here, and then maybe try another city, or maybe stay here. Who knows? I'm not going to do the thing I normally do, though, and live here for a year, and then move back to Lansing.
