The party was a success. I think the drinks and games party is not much my style, though. Lots of people came, but they didn't stay long and I don't think they really enjoyed it that much. I'm going to take Nick's suggestion and try out the dinner party thing one day.
1.What did you do in 2005 that you've never done before?
Saw San Francisco.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn't keep them. I didn't get half-way finished with my novel. I've made progress, though. But I will make new resolutions which I plan to keep.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin isn't that close, but he had a daughter. Well, his wife (which I didn't meet until a couple months ago) gave birth. I find that question a tad sexist in language.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My grandma.
5. What countries did you visit?
None. Went more places in the US than ever, but never crossed our borders.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Maybe a girlfriend. I'm picky, though.
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 12th, the day my grandma passed away and my 25th birthday.
Also, the day Seanie and Erika got married, because that was one hell of a party.
8. What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year?
Paying off all my debt to my parents. I like to not owe people things.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I wish I could think of something I'd really say was a failure. There's plenty of things I could have done a little better, though.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got a bad cold which made me call out sick for work one time.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The best things I have I didn't have to buy. The best thing I bought was probably the CD Bloc Party Silent Alarm. It's my kind of music and it was on sale when I bought it.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Molly's. She took her break up better than she took her relationship.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Nick's. He got engaged. Fortunately, they broke up.
14. Where did most of your money go?
My debts, mostly to my dad, but also to the student loan companies. It's not because I owed my dad that much. It's because I only paid the bills the loaners asked for. I'll pay them extra when I have a surplus this year.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Becoming a flight attendant. Boy, did that get old fast.
16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
"Banquet" by Bloc Party.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? I was just back from India, so I was probably pretty happy then.
ii. thinner or fatter? About the same, most likely.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer, but like last year, I am unemployed.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing for my novel.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Spending money on food.
20. How will you be spending have you spent Christmas?
With my unrelated aunt and her family. Good times. This time wasn't as loud and wild as other visits have been.
22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
I had my eye on someone. I could really use that eye back now.
23. How many one-night stands?
How many nights are there in a year? Kidding. I'm still on the V-team, I'm proud to say. Screw cultural norms.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Angel.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.
26. What was the best book you read?
Mostly Harmless by Douglas Adams.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Molly.
28. What did you want and get?
A band.
29. What did you want and not get?
A healthy grandma.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I didn't see many movies, so I'm going to go with Batman Begins. Thank goodness for that movie. The series shouldn't end with the likes of Batman and Robin.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 25, and I worked.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Making enough money to pay off all my debts.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
I wore collared shirts a little more.
34. What kept you sane?
The last flights of the night and sometimes the passengers seated closest to my jumpseat.
35. What drove your crazy (I added this, since 35 was missing from Emily's)?
Dulles International Aiport.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Terrorism, from 9/11/01 to the suicide bombers in Iraq who think they get to go to Paradise killing playing children of their own country.
37. Who did you miss?
Grandma.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Mark from the Charlottesville party.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
Don't take women at face value. Ever.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"I cannot guess what we'll discover
We turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels
But I know our filthy hand can wash one another’s
And not one speck will remain"
"Soul Meets Body" by Death Cab for Cutie
