Party Update

I think we've pretty much decided which day will be the party. It will be Friday, December 30th. My place. Contact me for directions, or maybe I'll friend-lock some directions in a little while. If you can't come Friday, but can come Thursday, why the heck didn't you say something? You suck and I shouldn't care about you. But tell me anyway, we may even have a Thurs party if there are enough who can come then too. Well, heck, most of you just need to let me know you're coming, and don't even need an occasion.

Like I said before, you can bring friends. No animals, though.

In other news, kuh-raziness: My parents left on the 16th. Last week, the pilot light for our furnace went out. I didn't realize this. I thought it was just cold and I needed to turn up the thermostat. Had the heater vents blowing all night, and I still woke up to a cold house. That's when I started thinking something wasn't working. Found out the pilot light had gone out, then relit it. Went on my merry way, and came home to find the pilot light went out again. Relit. About an hour later, it was out again. Relit. Went out again.

It was then I realized this wasn't going to work. So I informed my parents via email and then proceeded to panic because our cockatiel doesn't really like the cold and might freeze to death with the drop in temperature. Not sure if that would be the case, but the temperature was probably getting around 40 in our house at night, and outside was going to be below freezing while I was gone for work the next day. Luckily, we had a kerosene heater, which I put in my room with the bird, so we could both keep warm. But I wasn't going to let that old fire hazard run while I had a trip to go to for work. I was going to be gone for four days, and I didn't know how I was going to keep that bird alive while I was gone. Called a few people. One guy offered to keep the bird at his place, but the birdcage happened to be 3 feet tall, and not likely to fit in anyone's car.

I had to leave for work, but fortunately, my little bro Dennis saved the day. He told me he'd get a safe electric heater for the bird. He did so, and helped me figure out which furnace repair guy the parents wanted me to call. The repairman may come tonight. Let's hope so.

My trip lasted until Christmas. I didn't mind working on Christmas that much. I was surprised at how full the flights were, though. But every time on that 4-day trip I got stressed from the job, I reminded myself that this was the last time I was working United Express. I finish up with US Airways Express and the entire job come Wednesday. I got home Christmas afternoon, then went to my aunt's (the one with all the animals).

As far as replacing the job I'm losing, I have a good alternative. I could still become a gate agent, which I was thinking about a couple months ago. Apparently, there are still openings for US Airways gate agents in Richmond. But I really need to get on the ball and make better cash then that. I'm still paying off student loans for the college education that I didn't get a degree from. I'm going to take Emily's advice and harass the temp agencies and brush up on my Word and Excel. The flight benefits for gate agents is tempting, though. It's better than the benefits I have as a flight attendant.
