I was lucky enough to see the movie
MILK today in a special screening. It is beautiful and extremely well done (my only real complaint is that there were no queer actors cast in the major roles).
MILK makes many incredible points but the one it best illustrates is that civil rights at their heart are about real life and real people. Two things that are difficult at best to approach "politely" or, more to the point, politically. Taking away someone's rights; to be married, to have chidren, to live cannot and should never be something that can be approached without considering who is affected by our decisions.
Most importantly, the pint of MILK is: this is not a struggle about an "issue". This is not about a ballot result or political power. This is about real people's lives.
The person I grabbed this video from stated that it should have been an ad against prop 8. MILK should have come out in October.
