A Marked Man

“A Marked Man” by Joseph Kibler

I see the world, in canisters,
Swirls of ink, thoughts a blur,
Who’s to say, what is right?
It makes you think,
Why we fight,

And the pictures I shed,
Sprawling upon my hands,
You see my truth,
I see you don’t understand,
Bite your tongue,
But you cannot lie,

This family,
Has no need to hide,
Who they are,
Their minds,
As much as it pains inside,
The outside reminds,

We grow up in several directions,
Protecting our self perceptions,
Trace the lines in my wrist,
And I dare you to resist,
Asking questions,
Investigating and digesting,

You’ll find my family tree,
Crooked and imperfect,
A beautiful sadness,
Like a broken canvas,
I am what you see,

A marked man,
A canister,
The pen,
I am the random thought I shed,
The blood I’ve bled,
And what’s left behind,

I am,
A marked man,
Here to remind,
Myself,
About my family,
My health,
How great it is to be,
I am what you see.
