This boy walked out to his mailbox before school one morning and found a letter inside addressed to him but there was no return address.  He opened up the letter and to his surprise it was all in French. He speaks absolutely no French so he had no idea what the letter said. He put the letter in his pocket and headed toward the school bus.

On the way to school, he pulled out the letter and tried desperately to understand what it said. The bus driver noticed the boy concentrating on the letter and asked, "What do you have there?" The boy said, "I just got this letter this morning. I don't know who it's from because there is no return address and I don't know what it's about because it's all in French and I don't speak a word of French." The bus driver replied, "I know a little bit of French, let me see it." So the bus driver read the letter, gasped, folded it back up, chucked it at the kid and slammed on the breaks of the bus. "I can't belive you brought that on my bus! Get off right now!" The bus driver opened the doors and kicked the boy off of the bus. Shocked, the kid exited the bus, letter in hand, and began to walk to school.

While walking up the stairs to the school, the boy was reading the letter and bumped into a fellow classmate. "Oh, I'm sorry." the boy said, "I didn't see you there. I have been trying to read this letter but I can't understand it because it's all in French and I don't speak French. There's no return address so I don't even know who sent it to me." The girl laughs and says, "Well, I speak some French. Let me see it and maybe I can help you." The boy handed the letter over to the girl and watched as her expression turned sour. "I can't believe you'd show this to me! Are you crazy? Is this some sort of sick joke?!" She cried. "No, I don't even know what it's about because I don't speak French." The boy insisted. The girl threw the letter at him and stormed off. Confused, the boy put the letter in his pocket and headed to class.

Once the boy was in class, he pulled out the letter and began trying to read it. The teacher noticed him concentrating awfully hard on the letter and asked what the letter was about. The kid replied, "I don't know. It's all in French and I don't know any French. Plus, I don't know who it's from because there is no return address." The teacher says," Well, I speak French, why don't you let me read it." So the kid handed the letter over to the teacher. The teacher looked the letter over and asked, "Is this some sort of joke?" The kid replied, "I don't know. I don't know what it says. I don't understand any French." Angry, the teacher folded up the letter and handed it to the boy. "You need to go to the principal's office right now and take your letter with you!"

The boy enters the principal's office and takes a seat. The principal says, "I heard you were disrupting class with some....letter?" The boy nods and says "I got this letter in the mail and it's all in French and it has no return address so I don't know who it's from. I can't understand the letter because I don't speak a word if French." The principal smiles and says, "I know some French, let me see the letter and maybe I could help out." The boy hands the letter over to the principal and watches the principal's horrified reaction to the letter. "What is this? Is this a joke? Because it is really not funny at all." he says. "I don't know what it says. I don't speak French." the boy cries. The principal folded the letter back up and says, "I'm sorry but I have no choice but to expell you. You need to leave school and go home right away." The boy takes his letter and heads toward home.

Confused as to why everyone was getting so upset about this letter, the boy headed to the library to try and translate the letter from a French book. The boy entered the library and headed straight to the Foreign Language section. While the boy was looking for  a French dictionary, the librarian walks by and asks the boy if he needs any help. The boy says, "I am looking for a French Dictionary but I can't seem to find one." The librarian pulled the book from the shelf, handed it to the boy and asked, "What do you need a French dictionary for?" The boy replies, "Well, I got this letter in the mail and it's all in French and I don't have any idea what it's about because I don't know a word of French." The librarian tells the boy that she is fluent in French and that she might be able to help him understand what the letter says. The boy hands the librarian the letter and waits for her reaction. "This letter is absolutely appauling! You need to take your letter and leave right now!" She folded the letter back up, handed it to the boy and rushed him out of the library.

As the boy was walking home from the library, he tripped over a bum that was sleeping on the sidewalk. "Hey boy, what do you think you're doing?" The bum shouted. "I"m so sorry. I didn't even see you there. I was just in the library trying to translate this letter and I ended up causing a scene." The bum asked what the deal with the letter was and the boy told him, "See, I got this letter.... but it's all in French... and I don't understand it because I don't know how to speak French. I don't even know who it's from... there's no return address."  The bum stands up and says, " Well, it just so happens that I speak some French. I think I can help you to understand what this letter is about." So the boy handed the letter over to the bum hoping that he can finally understand what the letter said. " The bum begins to read the letter and choked. "What is wrong with you boy?! I can't believe you would show this to me or to anyone for that matter!" The bum wrinkled up the letter, threw it at the boy and ran away."Now this is getting rediculous! I can't imagine what this letter says." The boy said to himself. He then picked up the letter and began to walk home. For the whole walk home, the boy kept looking the letter over and over trying desperately to understand what was said.

When the boy got home, he immediately rushed to the computer and logged online to one of the translation sites. His father interrupts him and says, "I heard you got expelled from school because of some letter..." The boy turned around, pulled the letter out of his pocket and handed it to his father. He begins to tell him about how he just got this letter with no return address and can't understand it because he doesn't speak French" The father reads over the letter and says, "Please, go to your room. Your mother and I need to talk." Three hours later, his parents entered his room and they seem very upset. His father looks at him and says, "Son, your mother and I have been discussing this letter for the past couple of hours and we have decided that it would be best for you to leave this house. We can't have you living under this roof any longer so please pack your things and catch the next train ride out of here." His mother places his folded letter on his bed and left the room without making any eye contact.

By now the boy has become increasingly upset and curious about this letter. He continues to try to understand the letter on his way to the train station. Once he reaches the booth, the teller says, "What is a young boy like you doing getting on this train all alone, with no parents or relatives?" The boy looks down at the letter and says, "Well, I got this letter... and it's all in French and I can't begin to understand any of it because I don't speak French. There is no return address on it either. This letter has caused me so much trouble." The teller says, "Well, I speak some French. Maybe I could understand it." The boy reluctantly handed the letter over to the teller. Once the teller has read the letter, he folded it up and passed it back to the boy. "I'm sorry, but you cannot board this train. I can't believe you showed me this letter!" The teller refused a ticket to the boy and slammed his window shut. Desperate to get on the train, the boy begins to run alongside the train looking for an open car to stow away in. He finally finds a car, hops in and sits down to look over the letter again. To his surprise he heard a voice say, "Now what is a little boy like you doing on this train alone with no ticket?' The boy looks up to see a bum walking toward him. "oh, it's just that I got this letter this morning and I can't understand it because it's all in French. It has caused me so muich trouble all day." The bum explains to the boy that he speaks French and should be able to translate the letter for him. He looked down at the letter but since the car was dark he couldn't read it. He moved toward the open train door to use that light to read the letter. The bum gets close to the door and as he begins to read the letter, it flies out of the car.
