Well, here it is, a few weeks on.

On the upside, the blowers and mega-dehumidifier have been taken away and the cabinets and big countertop moved from the living room and garage respectively.  The stove has been returned to the kitchen from the hallway and plugged in, so, in theory, I can cook.

In theory.

But there's still no water available to the kitchen sink.  The dishwasher has been disconnected.  And there are still gaping holes in the vinyl in the kitchen and the carpet in the living room.

Remembering my Girl Scout days, I could, I suppose, get a couple of my buckets, fill them with water at another tap, and wash dishes that way.  Yeah,   That was so much fun then.  The tap in the small powder room doesn't have enough clearance to go and fill a bucket with, so, that means going to the garden tap in the garage, filling with cold water, heating some on the stove..., soap in one bucket, clear water in the other,  oh such fun.  Garbage can go in the trash.  When I would stay up at our cottage in Lakeport, I used to wrap up garbage after each meal and carefully place it in the container so the raccoons or other varmints wouldn't get at it.  Same thing at camp.  I know how to live without a disposer and all the modern conveniences.

It's not happening.  Takeout, paper plates and plastic cups, is what's happening.

The site has been visited by insurance reps. and the construction manager for the condo association.  Bids for the repairs have been submitted to the condo association board of directors for approval.  Because we're still in the "new construction" phase, the condo association is controlled by the builder.  And the construction is still under the builder's warranty.

Things were delayed because of the holidays.  Getting contractors out during the holidays is as bad as trying to get anything done during deer hunting season here in Michigan.

The construction manager assures me that the board approval will be forthcoming tomorrow and we can begin to schedule all the disruptive repair people to come in.  This means shifting furniture all around, basically.

It will all work out.  It has before, it will again.  In the meantime, I'm spending as much time away from the condo as I can.  I lived in chaos (only Thenodrin and my friend Karen know how much chaos, really) for way too many years and it's painful to be thrust into that sort of situation again.

Happy New Year!
