I smiled as I sat down in the other chair since Holly was sitting between us. "Yes it is poisonous, but not if you fix it right. I had the chef help me with this so don't worry," I laughed gently as I grabbed a piece of sliced chicken. I grabbed a little bit of the jellyfish and put it in the middle before I rolled it up. "Here, take a little bite and if you don't like it then you don't have to eat it." I held it up while Joe debated it and then finally leaned over and took a bite. I brought it back and ate the other part of it, giving Holly a small bite of chicken. "So how was it?" I asked as I took a sip of wine. He told me it wasn't bad and I smiled at him. "Thank you for at least trying it baby. You gotta try a little bit of everything to make our wedding "official" or something like that. I quit listening to my grandmother after awhile." He laughed and grabbed another piece of meat to make another roll.
We sat there in comfortable silence as he ate a little more and I fed Holly more chicken. After I bit I leaned over and kissed him. "I'll be right back, I need to get the next course, so don't eat too much. We have seven courses left," I laughed as his eyes went wide while he told me I was pretty amazing. "I know babe," I winked as I walked back to the building. I walked in and asked how things were coming along. I checked on things and then served us two bowls of soup. I put them on plates and made them look pretty before I walked back outside to Joe. I set the plate down in front of him and then walked sat mine in front of my chair. I put a little broth in a saucer and blew on it to cool it before I set it down in Holly's chair for her. I picked up my spoon and tried a little bit, humming my approval. "So this course is shark's skin soup. It brings wealth to our lives," I laughed. "But we didn't really need this step I guess."
"Hey, I'll still take it!" I joked back with her about the shark skin soup. "So does everything have a meaning or something?" I asked truly curious about this custom. I liked that Brenda had a strong culture and wanted to share it with me and I tried hard to understand everything. I also liked that we did this right before we left so that I could tell her family about it properly if they asked. "Speaking of bringing wealth, I was thinking that we should rent the house out. We won't be in it more than we will, and we also need someone to look after it. We can hire someone to look after it and rent it out so that way the entry way won't have algae and disease growing in it for when we come back and we can have some extra cash coming in. How does that sound, baby?"
I took a bite of soup and swallowed before I answered. "Everything has a meaning. The first course represented the Dragon and Phoenix or Yin and Yang and was just about us. And this was about wealth. The next one represents the balance between male and female," I said as I took another spoonful. I smiled as I watched Holly lap hers up and listened to Joe's idea about the house. "Yeah baby that sounds fine with me. But I do have to say that I want our bedroom locked so no one can use it. I don't want others fucking in my bed, even if we aren't there more than once a year."
He finished his soup right about the time the chef brought out the next two courses. "This is a lobster and chicken egg roll and that is the male and female balance," I said as I watched them bring out the pig to show him, since that was going for other guests also. "And the suckling pig represents virginity, even though I wasn't exactly that on our wedding night." The chef served us some and then took it back into the kitchen. "So remember these are two different courses so now we have four left," I said as I gave Holly a bit of egg roll and a few bites of pork.
Even though she told me the first course was about the Dragon and the Phoenix for some reason it went right over my head. I decided to pay closer attention from now on. I was glad that she liked the idea of renting the house out and laughed when she said she didn't want anyone but us fucking in our bed. "I don't have a problem with that, baby. I'll get on it and get it all taken care of." I smiled when the chef brought out even more food, but my eyes widened when they rolled out a pig. An actual whole pig! I felt like I was at a luau or something. As the chef went over to slice up some pig for us, she told me it represented virginity even though hers was gone before our wedding. I laughed and told her, "that's okay babe. You gave it to me, so I'd say it still counts," I told her with a wink. She told me we still had four courses left and I looked at her shocked. "Babe... I know I can eat a lot, but I can't eat a whole pig. Add four courses on top of that and you're gonna have to be carrying me out of here on a stretcher!" I joked. "But really baby, everything tastes so good. You shouldn't tempt me like this because I'll eat myself to death," I teased again. She knew I loved her cooking and she was spoiling me rotten tonight.
I laughed. "We can't eat the whole thing. We're sharing it with other people and only eating a little bit," I smiled as I took a huge bite of egg roll. "In China, it's customary to give away food at weddings to show your generosity and wealth, so I figured we'll share with the people that helped with us." I watched Holly gobble up her food and then put her paws on Joe's arm and whimper some. "Well apparently Holly loves the pork," I said as I finished up my egg roll. I popped some meat into my mouth and hummed. Now I could see why Holly loved it so much. I smiled as Joe gave her another little bite and then kissed her nose. He was in a very loving mood tonight. "Aww Daddy, you're so sweet to our babies."
He smiled up at me and I kissed him before I excused myself once again. I ran back to the kitchen and ate a little bit more of the pork as I checked on the duck and the squab. I added a few more spices and then walked back with the chef and waited while he served us. "Okay so the Peking duck is served because it's red and red means happiness and the squab is served to show peace at the beginning of the marriage." Once again, I cut some up and cooled it before I put it on Holly's saucer. I cut mine up into small bites and tried one before I leaned over and laced my hand with Joe's. "Baby, I'm so happy we had this month together. But I'm more happy that I'm your wife and always will be."
"Oh okay good. I didn't want to mess dinner up, but that would have been a little too much for me to handle," I explained with a laugh. I tried to imagine what this would have been like at our wedding, or even just in China with her family. I knew that her mother would have been beaming with pride. I also knew that it would have been stressful for her to worry about this many courses, so a more intimate setting was probably the better choice. I laughed at Holly begging for the pork and I fed her some more, never being able to tell my Princess no. I gave her a little kiss because even though she was a brat, she was my ute little brat and she acted this way because of our spoiling. I couldn't help it though. I was happy and I felt like spreading that warmth.
She gave me a kiss before getting the rest of the food, and I stuffed some pork into my mouth since I'd fed Holly mine. I knew that I said I couldn't eat it all, but it was damn good and I anted to get more before Brenda came back with whatever was next. She came back with some lighter food. Happiness and peace both sounded good to me and I had no problem eating to that. I tried to chew my food slowly so that I wouldn't get bloated and have to lay out in the sand for a while. I smiled at Brenda when she held my hand and smiled even wider at her words. I gave her hand a light squeeze and told her, "baby, that makes me the happiest. I love that I always have you." I thought about our month together and everything that happened and everything that I felt. "You know, I knew that I wanted to get married and that I was ready for it, but I never imagined it would be like this. Baby, it's so much better than I thought it would be. I didn't think it would be bad, but I never knew that I could feel this much peace and purpose. You really are my soulmate, babygirl," I said as I looked into her eyes.
I smiled and blushed as I listened to him tell me how much better marriage was than he thought it would be. I had to say that I agreed with him. Being married to him was just amazing and it made me feel whole. But I worried sometimes that he would change his mind once we got back to the real world and to our responsibilities. But for now I wasn't going to worry about that. "It's been amazing. Getting married was the best thing and it's been so much better than I thought it would. I love the idea that you'll always be with me and we'll always be each others. Nothing could top how I've felt since we've gotten married." I leaned closer and pulled him to me so I could kiss him. His lips felt soft against mine and I slipped my tongue out and ran it across his bottom lip before he sucked it in his mouth.
Things were heating up but luckily, our princess was there to keep us in check. I felt a wet tongue slide up my cheek and I squealed as I pulled back and laughed at her kissing her daddy. "Aww baby, are you being left out," I smiled as I grabbed a piece of duck and fed it to her. I laughed at Joe taking a deep breath and told him to keep eating. We ate a little longer before the chef came out again and set down our last two dishes. "Okay, this is a vegetable salad made with sea cucumber. The reason for that is because 'good heart' or Shànliáng de xīn and sea cucumber sound the same in Chinese." I smiled at him as I stole a carrot of his plate and ate it. "And the other dish is a lo mien made with a fish called bubur. The fish is because in Chinese it sounds like plentiful and the noodles represent longevity. And I'm glad that we're nearly to dessert because I'm getting stuffed," I laughed.
It meant a lot to me when Brenda said she'd never been happier than when she became my wife. She always made me feel like I was special and important and I was so lucky to have someone bring me such happiness. When she kissed me, I felt the sparks fly between us. I hoped that never went away. We spent every day together for a whole month, on top of the year and a half we'd been together and I still got butterflies. I still felt that electricity current between us. We had a special connection and I never wanted that light to go out. I moaned around her tongue and was about to pull her into my lap when she shrieked and pulled away. I was very confused until I felt a wet tongue on my cheek. Holly got jealous and wanted some kissed for herself. I scratched her belly and asked, "you want to be the center of attention? Don't you, baby?" She barked happily and I scratched the top of her neck as I tried to calm myself down.
Food was a good distraction because I was starting to notice all of the ways I could slip her out of that dress or get to her skin with it still on. "I'm getting a little full too," I responded with a laugh of my own. "Well, good heart and longevity are always good things, as well as everything else. I love this whole idea, babe." I smiled at her trying to show that I knew this was special to her and I liked that she wanted to share it with me. "Everything has been delicious baby. You've really outdone yourself this time." I leaned over and kissed her cheek wanting to show my appreciation, but not wanting Holly to have a little fit again.
I smiled as he told me he loved this idea. I really loved it too. I loved sharing my culture with him and this was something special that we'd never have again. I twirled some noodles on my fork and took a bite. Everything was delicious. I had to say that I'd really out done myself this time. I got some of the fish and cut it into some small bites along with some carrots for Holly to much on since those really were her favorite snack. I laughed as Joe slurped his noodles and tried some of the veggies. We ate until we were nearly full and then I leaned back into my chair and groaned some. "Oh my god, I'm never going to get dessert down. I think I'll have to feed it to the baby," I laughed as I scratched her ears.
I sighed as the dessert was brought out with some 7-Up. "Finally, and thankfully, this is the last of it. The 7-Up is because it sounds like seven happiness in Chinese. Then this is a hot sweet red bean soup with lotus seeds and bak hop to ensure that our marriage lasts for 100 years, and this is steamed bread sweetened with lotus paste which is a sign of fertility." I tore off a little piece of bread and leaned over and fed it to Joe as I smiled. "It's not wedding cake but it will definitely do the job."
I laughed at how full Brenda was. She was right when she said everything she did was cute to me. I even thought the way she leaned back just now was cute. I smiled at her as she scratched Holly's ears, happy that Brenda was mine forever. I opened up for her when she wanted to feed me the cake. "Mmm, this is good, babe." I tore off a little piece to feed her some too and gave her my dopey smile. I was so happy to be here with her right now and that she would do something this special just for me. I tried some of the soup and decided that I would like them better together. I dipped some of the cake into the soup and ate it that way. "You know, I don't think 100 years is long enough," I spoke up. "Maybe, 1,000." I took another bite and pretended to think hard about. "Nope, still not long enough," I told her with a smile. "Nothing's ever gonna be long enough with you, babygirl," I whispered. "I guess I'll just have to settle for forever," I told her with a wink.
I was happy when he fed me some of the bread. I was hoping he would catch on that I wanted that and he didn't let me down. I smiled at him as I stirred some of the soup to cool it before I took a bite. Damn, I was good at this cooking business. I took a cue from him and put some of the bread in the soup and decided it was better this way. I looked back at Joe as he told me that a thousand years was never enough with me and I felt my heart swell up. "Forever is the best for me. But even then, it's not long enough. But I think that even if we are sent back down to Earth for something, we'll always find each other again." We looked at each other with our dopey smiles before I giggled and looked down with a blush.
I took a few more bites of soup and gave Holly a little bit before I leaned back in my chair and sighed as I ran my hand over my tummy. "I have such a damn food baby. Look, Holly has one too," I laughed as I watched her roll over in her chair with her legs in the air as she sighed. I reached over and scratched her tummy some and watched her fall asleep. My baby was such a little princess. I reached over and laced my hand with Joe's as we sat back and watched the waves crash over the sand. "I'm glad we didn't have all this at our wedding. We never would have gotten any dancing done."
I loved that Brenda thought we'd always find each other and always be together. I felt the same way too. There was no way that I could be with anyone else, ever. I told her once that even if we came back as rocks, we'd be neighbors and next to each other so we could always touch. I loved her with everything I had. "Yeah, we will, baby," I agreed before just staring into her eyes. After a while Brenda pointed out her food baby again and the Holly had one too. I was also pretty full, but the glutton in me could go for some more of that pork. It was so good, but I knew if I did that then I would only be able to lay out on the sand like a beached whale. I exercised some self control and focused on Brenda instead of eating again.
I ran my thumb over her hand and smiled, enjoying her company and our surroundings. "Yeah, the dancing was worth it. It was a lot of fun to just have a party with all our friends and family on our special day, but it was even better getting to dance with you to our song." I would never forget that moment. We both sang it to each other softly and looked into each other's eyes. It was pretty magical to song words that you and that one you loved most had written to each other to represent the feelings the pumped through your hearts. This gave me an idea and I grinned at her before standing up. "Mi'lady," I said as I offered her my hand to help her up. I lead her away from the table and onto the sand as I wrapped my arms around her and started to slowly sway. "Somewhere up there beyond the blue... Surely by now somebody's missin' you. I found the angel they must be lookin' for...Heaven must be wondering where you are," I started to sing.
I was way too full to get up but the way Joe held out his hand and asked me to dance was just too cute. He really was the best husband ever. I took his hand and let him pull me out of my chair and out to the sand. He wrapped his arms around my waist as I wrapped my around his neck. I laced my together and played with his hair as he started to sing our wedding song. I was so proud of that song! We had written it together and it truly was how we felt about each other. Nothing could describe us as well as this song did.
I knew that Joe liked it when I sang and I smiled at him and started the next verse. "When I look into your eyes...it's so plain to see..nothing here on earth describes what you mean to me. Out of this world, when I hold you in my arms..Heaven must be wondering where you are," I sang and smiled at him. I guessed that if I was going to record a song in the studio again, this would be the one I would want to do but just keep it for us so we could play it for our kids later. I smiled as he twirled me and brought me close again.
I was so happy that Brenda sang along with me. She was shy about her voice even though she could actually sing. There was so much untapped potential there, but I would never push her. I just asked her to sing for me when no one else was around once in a blue moon. I was glad she volunteered for it now though and I stared at her so in love. I spun her and delighted in her smile. We finished the song singing back and forth to each other, but I didn't let her go once we were done. I pulled her body flush against mine and held her tightly. This night was perfect. It was warm out with a gentle breeze and the rolling waves were the perfect calm soundtrack tour evening. I looked and Brenda and was amazed at how gorgeous she was. Somehow, she'd gotten even better looking since we'd been here and she took my breath away. "I love you, Brenda," I told her in that quiet voice I used just for her.
I loved dancing with Joe. It was always one thing that we both loved to do. I smiled up at him as he held me close and looked in his eyes. Joe was so handsome and since we'd been here he'd gotten even better looking. He had a great tan going on and when he trimmed up his beard, he looked damn sexy. "I love you, too, Joe. You really are my favoritest person," I smiled sweetly as I leaned up and ran my nose over his before I kissed it. I looked back over to the table and saw that Holly was still sleeping.
"Come on babe," I said softly as I took his hand and led him closer to the water and away from the lights. I checked to make sure that I could still see Holly and then sat down in the sand with him. I pushed him back and then laid down beside him with my head on his shoulders. "Isn't the sky beautiful here? We can actually see the stars...I'm gonna miss being able to see them this clearly," I said gently as I kissed his cheek and nuzzled him.
Brenda was so cute with her eskimo kisses. I loved that I was her favoritest and before I could say it back she was dragging me to the beach. She had me lay down and then snuggled into me. I loved feeling her warm little body beside mine and I held her close, enjoying how well she fit into me. She told me she'd miss being able to see the stars this clearly and I had to admit that it was a beautiful sight. "Yeah... it really is amazing, babe." I ran my thumb back and forth over her hip and grinned to myself, being reminded of our first night together and how we star gazed. We made up constellations after we ran out of the ones that we knew, and it was when I knew that there was something special about Brenda and I couldn't just let her go. "Look, babe! There goes you!" I pointed up at the sky to a cluster of stars that didn't have any shape, but shone the brightest.
