May i just say, i ADORE your commentary. And agree with pretty much ALL of it. ::grin::
George's death had me bawling like a baby. ::sniffle:: and yeah, Chemistry Like You Wouldn't BELIEVE!
Wonder who the old gray-haired Vulcan is (actor, not character). He looks slightly familiar.
If you mean the primary one that Spock argues with re: Vulcan Science Academy. It's William Morgan Sheppard. He played Blank Reg in Max Headroom (and he's been in a LOT of other things from Bab5 to Voyager to voice overs for a lot of various cartoons). I LOVE him.
While i can see Spock/Jim - i prefer Bones/Jim in the Reboot verse (or all three... ::snicker:: - i'm easy.)
Hee at the idea of Sarek/Chekov... but yeah, poor Pavel looks GUTTED when he can't save Amanda. SERIOUS guilt.
LOVED Spock Prime and wouldn't mind seeing more of him in the fic. Leonard Nimoy's Spock will ALWAYS be a favorite (though i preferred DeForrest Kelly as McCoy from the original OT3 ::grin::) and Nimoy is PERFECT as the older Spock who has lost his universe and is trying to save THIS on (while dealing with the guilt of not being able to STOP what has happened).
Loved Sarek (and he made me CRY with his comments to young Spock, and then to grieving Spock. I was FLOORED with the quiet "emotion" the actor portrayed without seeming Out of Character for a controlled Vulcan. Controlled, not Emotionless. ::happy sigh::)
I have to admit, i went in not sure about this movie. I'm an Old School Trek girl and wasn't sure some of the actors they chose could pull it off... wasn't sure i was going to like the changes in the reboot... wasn't sure i even wanted to SEE it, but decided to give it a shot. And i have to say, i was VERY pleasantly surprised. I LOVED it. Didn't like some of the "changes" they made while messing with the time stream (WAAAAAHHHHHH! VULCAN!!!!) but it actually WORKED for me. Didn't LIKE it, but it worked.
It will be interesting to see where they go with it. This one was a "set up of the Reboot" and showing the "differences" between what we KNEW and what now is and i HOPE that they don't forget the character interactions and such that MADE Trek what it is. Action is all fine and good, but for me, the main thing about Trek was the wonderful diversity of characters and interactions between them. I'm hoping that they build on that in the future.
Wonderfully fun post, hon. Thank you for sharing it.
