Ianto opened his eyes for the third time and looked at the clock. Not much time had passed since the last time his body had told him it was time to be awake; it was four in the morning. He sighed, slipped out of Jack's sleepy embrace and sat on the edge of the bed. Ianto stood a little shakily and concentrated on remembering how to walk for a moment before he made his way towards the door. He opened it and slipped out, then walked into the living room and switched on one of the table lamps.

He saw the lump in the blanket on the sofa move, and then David sat up and squinted in the light.

“Sorry. Didn't see you there.”

“That's okay, I have to be up in five hours anyway.” He ran his fingers through his hair and looked over at Ianto as he padded barefoot into the kitchen. He followed him. “What are you doing up anyway?”

“Water.” Ianto held up a glass. “Thirsty.”

“That's generally why people drink water.”

Ianto smiled and sat down at the table. “Death has a funny effect on your sleep pattern,” he said, “it makes you want to wake up at ungodly hours. And you feel very dehydrated.”

“Don't let the sleep police see you up.” David sat opposite him. “Mica is obsessed with resting.”

“Yes. I've noticed that.”

“She says she's nothing like Mam, but she is”

“Completely.” Ianto drank his water and an uncomfortable silence fell between them. “How is Rhi?”

“Rhi?” David thought for a moment until he got it. “Oh! Mam?”

“Yeah.”

“She's all right.”

“How do you think she's going to react?” Ianto asked. “You know... when she finds out?”

David shrugged. “Dunno. I remember her being bad for a long time after you--”

“Died?”

“yeah. She was gutted, we all were. Even Dad got upset”

Silence settled between them again.

“Well I should get back to bed I suppose. Try and get my sleep pattern back to normal.” Ianto stood up and toppled a little, David held him up. “Thanks.” He smiled tightly. “Still a little shaky on my legs.”

“I'm like that every Saturday night.” He laughed a little, then his smile dropped and they resumed the slightly awkward silence.

“Goodnight.” Ianto made his way towards the bedroom.

“My first memory was of you.” David wasn't exactly sure why he had said it, and the words escaped his mouth before he could stop them. “I was four, I think.”

Ianto turned around again and walked back to him. “Really?”

“Yeah. Your flat, James Bond and a bowl of Rice Crispies.” He hook his head. “Sean Connery. I got rice crispies on your rug and I thought you would go mad, but you didn't.” He paused. “I dunno why I remember it, but I do.”

“I used to babysit you all the time when you were little.” Ianto smiled fondly. “Then I got busy. I moved away.”

“Why?”

Ianto sighed and sat down. “My dad died and I got a job offer in London. It seemed the right time to move. In Retrospect maybe I should have stayed, then again my life would have been very different if I had.”

“I can see why you moved. It's hardly the glamorous life, is it?”

“It has its advantages.”

“I'd love to get away,” he said, “bugger off to London for a bit.”

“Why don't you then? You might end up regretting it if you don't do it when you're young.”

David sighed and took his wallet out of the jacket on the back of his chair. He took out a picture and handed it to Ianto. “I'm a shit dad, but I'd never do that to her, I'd never just leave her.”

Ianto looked at it and smiled. “How old?”

“Seven months,” he said, “accident.”

“Some accidents are good.” He ran his finger over the picture. “What's her name?”

“Roxanne. I call her Rox. Her mother chose the name. I hate it.”

“So, I'm a great Uncle then?”

“Yeah I guess so.”

Ianto handed it back. “Congratulations, she's gorgeous.”

“Takes after her mother.” David put it back in her wallet. “But she's got my nose.”

Mica cleared her throat from the doorway. “What time do you call this?”

David smiled. “Busted. It's the sleep police.”

She walked over to Ianto and glared at him. “You should be asleep.”

“I'm going.” Ianto sighed and then stood up. “Goodnight.”

He walked through the house and back into the bedroom, shutting the door quietly. He crawled back into bed.

“Where did you sneak off to?” Jack said rolling over, awake.

“I couldn't sleep, I needed a drink.”

“Took you a while.”

“David was up,” he said, “ we talked for a bit.”

“I see.” Jack moved closer in the dark and kissed him. “What did you talk about?”

“Memories, Rhiannon, his daughter.” Ianto smiled a little. “It felt okay.”

“That's good.”

Ianto hovered above Jack and kissed him into the pillow. Jack wrapped his arms around him and pulled him closer, then let his hands caress the skin at the bottom of his back.

“Jack?” Ianto stopped the kiss.

“Yeah?”

“Do you think I could go home soon?” He paused for a moment and made himself comfortable in Jack's arms. “I want to see Rhiannon.”

“Are you sure?”

He nodded. “I think it's time. I feel a lot better and I want to get on with my life. The first thing, the most important thing, is seeing Rhi again. Trying to explain.”

“I'll ring Martha tomorrow and get her to check you over, then we'll pay her a visit.”

He kissed his lips softly. “But before we do there's something else we need to do.”

“What's that?”

Ianto edged a little closer and kissed Jack's neck, then moved his lips to his ear. “One night alone.”

“That can be arranged.” Jack smiled.

Ianto moved to hover above Jack again and straddled him a little. “No Mica.” He kissed Jack's neck. “No David.” He pressed his lips to his jaw. “Just you and me.”

Jack wrapped his hand around the back of his neck and pulled Ianto closer, dragging his lips into a deep kiss.

“Don't get me wrong, I love Mica and David,” Ianto mumbled, “but what I wouldn't give for them not to be here right now.”

“I could always go and throw them out.” He smiled against Ianto's lips.

“And tell them what? Excuse me kids could you just step outside for an hour or so, Uncle Ianto wants to shag me senseless?”

“Worth a try.” Jack reversed Ianto's hold and pushed him gently into the pillows. “Right now I would give anything for that.” He kissed him softly and rested his head against Ianto's chest, then wrapped his arm around him. “But good things come to those who wait.”

“And you are definitely a good thing.”

“So?” Ianto buttoned up his shirt and watched Martha as she wrote something down. “What's the verdict?”

Martha shook her head in disbelief and blinked slowly before she looked at him. “You seem... fine.”

“That's good though, right?”

“Oh yeah, it's good. It's just--” She took a moment to find her words. “Impossible.”

“Nothing is impossible.” Ianto smiled. “Jack told me that once but I don't think I believed him.”

She took a deep breath. “How do you feel?”

“Okay I suppose. A little sore first thing in the morning and last thing at night, but other than that I feel generally okay.”

“And the medication?”

“It hurts to be without it.” He admitted.

“Decrease it a little at a time over the next few weeks. If it still hurts after that I'll examine you again.” She put her clipboard down and looked at Ianto. “So, are you having any problems with any part of your body?”

Ianto shook his head. “No.”

“Nothing?” She rose an eyebrow. “Not even-- you know?”

“No problems.” He blushed a little, the colour rushing to his cheeks. “None at all.”

“I see. So you've tested it out?” Martha smiled.

“We may have experimented a little, yes.”

“Well the good news is that you should have no problems.”

“And the bad news?”

“There's no CCTV in here.”
