128 Scout - Day 15: Please have a seat.

Jun 23, 2015 23:59

Today after work I hit up the home improvement stores and got some light bulbs for the dryer, a couple of new seats for the toilets, a new spout for the bedroom bathroom, and some soap dishes and such for both bathrooms. The cheap plastic seats that were on the toilets were both unappealing to sit on and to look at, so I replaced them with some relatively inexpensive yet well-built white enamel-coated wood seats. They are now reasonably comfortable to sit on and are visually acceptable. I used some CLR and bathroom cleaner to clean up some of the rust stains from the various porcelain surfaces, but the toilet and sink in the bedroom bathroom could probably use some additional attention as there are still a few stubborn rust stains on those items.  I also applied a Rid-X treatment to the septic system since I have no idea how lond it's been since that's been done, but I would imagine that it's overdue. I replaced the light bulb in the dryer and now it seems to function as expected once again.

I also gathered up some of the branches from the yard and started a small fire over a piece of rotting wood that was sticking up from a concrete pad on the edge of the yard. I was concerned that it could become an "obstacle" when mowing the yard, and also I think that the pad will make a nice place to clean the mower when I'm done mowing. Things were slightly damp and it took a fair amount of lighter fluid to really get the fire started and sustained, but once it got going I was able to feed it with some larger branches and get a nice mound of embers built up around the artificial "stump," so I think that it will be burned out well by tomorrow. It was wet/damp enough from recent rains that I am not concerned about leaving it unattended overnight as there should be no risk of fire spreading.
