Rant about child pageants

This is more focused on the TV show "Little Miss Perfect", but I think can be applied to child pageants in general as well.

So, I like the Golden Girls. Stfu, I've watched (and enjoyed) it for the better part of my entire life :P As of now, the show comes on Hallmark and WE (Women's Entertainment). I usually watch it on Hallmark for one reason: I'm sick and tired of seeing the ads for WE's "Little Miss Perfect" show.

Number one, the host is obnoxious beyond belief. Second, the mothers they show I just want to smack across the face. And third, it's not being advertised as a doc series with some important message or reasoning behind it; just the desire to win at any cost. Keep in mind these little girls are 10 and under. True, some of them may really enjoy the pageants and are really proud of their accomplishments. But to me, it just seems like exploitation. I don't understand how children that young can be subjected to some of the things their parents put them through when they don't want to do it anymore. There was one woman shown on the ads who was congratulating her daughter on her practice walk at home, but then right behind the words of praise and encouragement she said "but you're still bouncing. You cannot bounce." and the girl replying in a tone that souded like she was about to cry. Another woman was seen talking her daughter into competing because if she didn't, her mom basically wouldn't love her anymore.

These girls are being painted and dressed up like whores all while being judged on physical beauty and having their parents behind them nagging away on how they're not perfect. Granted, some of the outfits I've seen are really cute and pretty......they just have no business being on a 10-year child. I'm actually waiting on them to reveal a girl whose talent entry is going to be either pole dancing or some S&M thing.

The host is just as bad as the parents; he tries to instruct the girls on how to win the contests by "really selling it" while trying some kind of walk that looks like it belongs to a cat who's been hit by a car. There's one thing to remember about these girls: they're KIDS. 99% of them are not pro actors or what-have-you, so lighten up. Ever think it'd be better for them to not look and move like sluts? Or maybe you just want another JonBenet case -shrug-

And let's give them a few years before they start to develop body image issues, m'kay?

Of course, I have not been able to sit through an entire episode because I can't get through one without wanting to slam my fist through the TV. And that would be bad. How would I watch my shows then? ^^ I'm just saying I do not agree with beauty pageants for girls that young, nor the way some parents try to live through them because they couldn't get validation for their own existences at some point in their lives. Kids need to be kids for as long as they can before they discover the world is not always nice and being "perfect" is something that they'll never acheive (as will none of us).

Just sayin' ^_^
