Here I thought I was being all original and cutting-edge and deep and whatnot and it turns out more than one person beat me to the punch. Eh. Whatever. Anyway, I was thinking the other day about the uses of the Seven Deadly Sins in Disney movies (animated). Mainly about how one like Lust could be included. Cuz Disney wouldn't make movies with characters that have sexual desires, amirite?! Well, not so much. Gaston (Beauty and the Beast) and Frollo (Hunchback of Notre Dame). Nuff said.
It got me to thinking about the other Sins and how Disney incorporated them into their films (before they started sucking after Hunchback and Fantasia 2000). So, here's my really rough list of exmaples from different movies of the Sins. Woot for having too much time on my hands!
1. Lust
a. Cinderella-stepsisters lust for the Prince
b. Aladdin-Jafar for Jasmine (more obvious towards end when Jasmine kisses him to distract him from Aladdin), harems seen throughout, Genie's disguise as a prostitute/madam ("Prince Ali"), Aladdin's attraction to beautiful females ("Friend Like Me")
c. Hunchback of Notre Dame-Frollo's obsession with Esmeralda ("Hellfire" song discloses this lust more explicitly than any other Disney film), Quasimodo's love for Esmeralda ("Heaven's Light")
d. Pocahontas-Kokoum's love for Pocahontas leads him to try to kill John Smith, whereas Smith's and Pocahontas' love for each other endangers each group of people
e. Robin Hood-
f. Little Mermaid-the whole song "Kiss the Girl". The little "in-joke" thing about the bishop at Eric and Ariel's wedding.
g. Lion King-Simba's love for Nala(?)
h. Beauty and the Beast-Gaston's lust for Belle, [candle]'s lust for [feather duster] seen at end
i. Tarzan-Tarzan's love for Jane leads him to disobey his "father" and endanger the family
j. Hercules-Meg's love for another man and his lust for another woman lead her into a contract with Hades, who employs her sexuality to win allies (ex. Nessus). this is only implied so younger kids wouldn't get it, but adults would.
