And finally, the last of the year-end blogs. Add up everything in all of them and you'll be able to work out exactly how much time I spend procrastinating. This entry in my "What Entertained Me" bloglist is all dead trees; last year I promised to buy less and read more. Well, I guess I managed half of that. My book score is down from last year, so I say again - I'll try to read more this year, because my book pile certainly isn't getting any smaller.
And speaking of halves, a full 50% of my reading in 2010 was science-fiction; I say that like it's news, but it really isn't. But by contrast, my reading of fantasy fiction leapt by a massive 200% from last year - yes, that's right, I read three, count 'em, three fantasy novels. And the fact that they were all written by friends of mine is, I am certain, totally coincidental.
Best of the year? Jed Mercurio's Russian Right Stuff epic Ascent was one of the first things I read in 2010 and it really stayed with me, a real feature-film feel with a tight, authentic-feeling narrative; and m'colleague Graham McNeill's epic A Thousand Sons just blew me away.
