2010 is gone, and I have mixed feelings about it. I felt like I worked just as hard, and yet the rewards seemed thinner on ground - but looking back, I can see that's not so. It was a good, solid year and I really packed it in with stuff - I saw some old friends for the first time in ages, and made some new ones, had a fantastic trip to Italy and above all got to work on some very cool projects.
I had a couple of new audios to bookend 2010 - the Judge Dredd Crime Chronicles story Double Zero came out in January and my Horus Heresy audiobook Oath of Moment was released in December - along with a full cast play as part of the Blake’s 7 The Early Years series in may, titled Escape Velocity. I also found time to contribute to Pigsy’s Perfect 10, my first ever downloadable content project, which was an add-on storyline for the videogame Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.
In addition to a couple of short stories ('The Slow Knife' in Star Trek: Seven Deadly Sins and 'The Returned' in Legends of the Space Marines), my first chapbook (Bloodline) and a couple of reprints, I had two novels out this year. The first was the Blood Angels adventure Black Tide, but my big release of the year came in July with my second Horus Heresy novel Nemesis - and with it something that I'd never expected. Nemesis did well enough to put me on the New York Times Bestseller list. Several months on, and the echo of that is still sounding, and it's only now that the true effect of that accolade is starting to make itself clear to me - so once more, my thanks to everyone who bought my books and supported my writing.
Looking forward to this new year, there's a lot on the horizon - foremost is Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the videogame I've been working on since 2008 (which will also be joined by a novel I wrote, Deus Ex: Icarus Effect); the game looks amazing and I can't wait to see the finished article. I also have a couple of other books scheduled for 2011 - a movie-era Star Trek novel (Cast No Shadow) and a new Warhammer 40,000 Sisters of Battle book (Hammer & Anvil). The latter will be joined by a Sisters audiobook (Red & Black) and a reprint of my 2006 novel Faith & Fire. If that's not enough from the Grim Dark Future, I have stories in the Age of Darkness and Victories of the Space Marines anthologies, plus another audiobook (Legion of One). And not forgetting the Highlander: The Four Horseman audio box set, which I worked on as script editor. I'm also hoping 2011 will at last see the release of the third Stargate audio drama series; more on that (and other unanounced projects) as and when they happen...
