“hey, what’s up?” Kassandra gave Breena a thumbs up in response to the five fingers her friends was holding up.
“Nick wants you tro meet us. We’re gonna smash a few fruits.”
“Can you repeat tat? Did you just say smash fruit?”
“Yeah…Nick wants to hone his Spidey senses.”
Kassandra could almost see Monroe doing hand gestures to emphasize the “Spidey senses”.
“Usual spot?” she asked, glancing at her watch.
“Yeah..Nick likes it secluded..Away from prying eyes, you know?”
“I’m just leaving right now. I’ll see you guys soon,” Kassandra promised.
When Kassandra reached the clearing, she found Monroe throwing ripened fruit toward a blindfolded Nick. His stance reminded her of a ninja, the way every muscle in his body was tensed with alertness. She could feel her heart pounding in her ears. Then the thought came into her head to test out Nick’s “Spidey senses” herself.
Shifting her weight so she was walking on the balls of her feet, she softly approached the two men. Nick went completely still, sensing that someone was approaching and they were trying to sneak up on him.
A small cry escaped her lips as she was tackled to the ground.
Nick’s “Grimm” face became a smirk as his weight pinned her down. Then their eyes locked. His fingers pushed a lock of her light brown hair away from her eyes. Monroe cleared his throat, reminding Nick and Kassandra of his presence. Nick helped her to her feet.
“Did I hurt you?” he asked, concerned.
“I’m okay. You startled me, but I guess that’s the whole point of these exercises, right?” Kassandra smiled up at him.
“Right.”
Monroe’s eyes had gone back to their previous little boy excitement as he pointed out the now smashed fruit that littered the ground.
“How cool is this? Nick hit every single one of these.”
“Yeah, I see.”
“I think I’m done here,” Nick announced.
“Good. I don’t have anything left anyway.”
Monroe’s cell phone rang as the trio headed back towards the clearing where Nick’s Rover and Monroe’s Beetle were.
Nick always had to smile when Monroe was talking to Rosalie, and this was no different.
“Hey, Rosalie….no, I didn’t forget, I was just out with Nick, you know, out in the woods, giving him a workout…the whole Grimm thing..”
Monroe absently waved at Nick and Kassandra as he pulled away.
“Sounds like someone’s got a hot date,” Kassandra commented as she watched her friend drive away. She felt Nick’s hand slide into hers, even as she gave his hand a squeeze in return.
This seemed to give Nick the courage he needed to ask the question he had on his mind. “Why don’t you leave your car here and we’ll come and get it tomorrow.”
She raised an eyebrow to disguise the shiver that went down her elbow. “Got something in mind?”
“I might….” Nick opened the passenger door for her. “I was thinking maybe since Monroe isn’t going to be home, you and I could spend some time..”
“You sure you’re feeling up to it?”
Nick half smiled at her concern. “I’m feeling a lot better. I promise.”
