...13 more days until Carolyn and Rebecca visit
...16 more days until David comes home from Israel
...24 more days until the move to Champaign
...30 more days until orientation
...33 more days until school starts and I have zero free time ...
So, wow, I've done so much to do to get ready for vet school, but, wow, I still have a lot more to do. I have so many lists going, it's not even funny. The scary thing is that it feels like for every list item, there's two I've forgotten to write down. So, yeah, I'm definately feeling frazzled.
And yet, it always feels good to go back and recount everything that you've already checked off. Okay, so, the highlights:
Apartment - check - taken care of in June (yay, for thinking ahead). Pretty cute complex, a little farther from the vet school than absolutely necessary, but nice a quiet. Lots of grad students, young families and seniors.
Furniture - check - The essential stuff anyway. I've got all my bedroom furniture from undergrad and a couch and loveseat from my cousin and a coffee table from my friend Carolyn's friend - interesting story, anyway, it's coming up with Carolyn in August
Kittens - BIG CHECK - Yay! I got my kittens today. They are so adorable. They're about three months old and both boys. One is all dark gray and the other is tiger striped. So they came from a lady who takes her Maltese to Lincolnshire Animal Hospital, where I worked. Last winter, she took care of a cat in her backyard. That cat had a litter of kittens, two of whom, stuck around in the spring. Both of those cats had kittens within a week of each other. There were ten total, so the two I have are either brothers or cousins, I'm not entirely sure.
I was supposed to pick them up on Wednesday, after I got back from visiting Carolyn in Miami, but when I called, the lady said that they had all run away and only the two mothers and one female kitten had come back and they were dehydrated and starving. So I got really scared because it was really, really hot last weekend and the kittens are really, really little. I feared the worst. Anyway, she called me this morning saying that they had ALL come back, so I rushed over there before they could leave again. YAY!
So they are both super cute, but super scared. I don't blame them; they've had a really rough day. The gray one (Scotty) it very cute and I have a feeling that he will come around to me fairly soon. The tiger one (Jordan) is not as easy to handle yet and may take some work.
Anyway, they're both hiding under my bed, which is fine. They can come out when they're ready. I just hope they don't poop or pee under there. I did show them where the litter box is first thing when we got home. One of them ate the wet food I left out for them so at least one of them is starting to calm down. So stay tuned for updates about them.
What else have I done recently? Hmm... I dyed my hair with dark red highlights. I love it, but it's pretty dramatic. People either say they absolutely love my new hair or don't say anything at all. Haha. Oh well, it's something fun for me to start my new school with. That's the nice thing about vet school. I know that I'm going to be tramping around in cow fields and wrestling dogs to the floor so don't have to dress professionally until my third or fourth year. It's like the total opposite from my friend Jenny who is a third year dental student at UofL. They have to wear professional dress or scrubs to all classes starting in their first year.
So tomorrow is my absolute last day of working (I'm covering a shift for someone at LAH) before school. After that, I'm "a lady of leisure" as my grandmother said tonight. I've been running so many errands the past three days and will be spending the rest of my time in Chicago shopping and getting all the little details together as my countdown to school continues. It feels really good to be productive. Everything I do brings me one step closer to August 23rd (first day of school).
one step closer...
