I had to watch 'the medicated child' today in health ed and there was a kid whose 'mommy and me' (Pre-preschool) teacher told the parents to put him on adhd medication. The kid was 4. So they did, and then he was diagnosed with childhood bipolar disorder (because he had mood swings apparently) and was put on anti-psychotics and mood stabilizers. He ( Read more... )

it is! i think jobs where you have to learn more about people in order to help them like this one are fascinating. I see something new every time I work.

Medicating a child like that doesn't seem to be given the amount of thought it should be. Any kind of mind-altering drugs should be the last possible resort.

I'd guess shitty parents before an actual illness in most cases.

me too. another terrible thing that i noticed (terrible because i noticed and terrible because it's true) was that all the mothers in the show were overweight housewives. One was married to a hollywood writer she was the least fat, probably because she could afford lipo and a better diet, then there was a morbidly obese woman, and then there was a fat woman with a tigger shirt and a scrunchy in her hair. they all looked like idiots. in one scene one of the fathers blatantly said to the camera, "I don't understand what that means but I like the presentation!" Disgusting.
