Earwormed again

:(  NBC, your coverage of the French Open is pathetic.  No pre-empting the crap-fest that is the Today show for the Biggest Damn Match of the Tournament, what a lot of tennis people think is the effective final taking place one round early because of seeding? Leaving the match between Novak Djokovic (world #1) and Rafael Nadal (seven time champion, widely considered to be the best clay court tennis player in the history of the sport) to a cable channel that most people don't have access to, without even giving the opportunity to view a stream online?  Is freaking ridiculous. There's no doubt in my mind that the ratings for the second match (which NBC did air in its entirety) were pathetic in comparison to what they could have been for Rafa-Nole XXXV.  Look, die hard tennis fans would have hung around appreciate Ferrer and roll their eyes at Tsonga's choke, but casual fans?  Tuned out after the Rafa-Nole rollercoaster came to a complete halt and the safety bar lifted.  No love from me, NBC and FFT.

:D Rafa won!  I listened from the start via Radio Roland Garros, and then followed the fifth set via Twitter until NBC tuned in.  (Sorry, RRG, but I really do not like Matt Cronin as commentator -- he spends too much time gossiping.  Give me Gigi Salmon, Nick Lester, Matt Brown, et al.)

+ Frank Turner at Rams Head Live.  I'm kind of boggled that he's playing such small clubs in the US after playing at Wembley. But so much the better for me?  Opened with one of my favorite songs from Tape Deck Heart, "Four Simple Words".  <3  Really liked Beans on Toast, the opener.  The Architects were...not really to my taste but the mix/balance (couldn't distinguish words over guitar and bass) may have contributed there. I'd kinda like to see him with The Dropkick Murphys but I'm not going to Columbus, OH for a concert (even if there were tickets available still).  Overall:  A+ show.  Wish I'd known earlier about his instore appearance on Wednesday evening -- I'd've bailed on the office happy hour and gone there instead.  The only downside to the show is that I've been earwormed, singing the chorus from "Wessex Boy" all day.

~  I'm sort of entertained/bemused by Brian Phillips' comparison to Nadal-Djokovic matches to metal in this Grantland piece.
