a streak is over

For the first time since 1998, I will not be spending Martin Luther King weekend in Reno. I've known that for some time, but booking the tickets for New Orleans that weekend has made it feel official. I got what I guess was a decent airfare ($355) for being able to fly back home to Portland. I fly out of Boston going out, in the early afternoon, so I'll be doing all my traveling at reasonable hours. I'll even be able to spend the last hour or so of that holiday in my own bed. I never had that luxury when flying home from Reno, since getting to and from there is never easy from 3,000 miles away. Maybe a snowstorm will make it difficult this time. I experienced that with synodalhaj a few years ago, but that was amazingly the only time snow ever affected my traveling on that weekend.

Even if Reno was still a NASPA event, I was about ready for a change, and the amazing turnout that scrabblek8 and Lila have attracted so far has made the decision that much easier. I've only been to New Orleans once, and it was during the not so optimal mid-summer, but at least it was during the National Championship at its peak. Hopefully #1 seeded nagekinoki and I don't combine for 29 losses like we did back then. If so, I'll just have to enjoy the games and not many of the outcomes.
