When news of prominent Serbian author Zoran Zivkovic's mystifying incarceration in Belgrade Zoo hit the headlines earlier today, the literary world was up in arms.

"It's alleged that Zoran's past has finally caught up with him," said Peter Crowther, noted UK author/editor and celebrated mainman of the multiple-award-winning specialist press PS Publishing. "Well, if raw talent, great style and breathtaking innovation have become crimes then I guess he's guilty as charged. Needless to say, we shall continue to publish his work, irrespective of where he actually writes it."

As ripples continued to spread throughout the day through the literary world--particularly in the surrealist fantasy backwaters, wherein Zivkovic has made his considerable name--the author's agent, John Jarrold, had this to say from his seaside home in East Sussex. "It's a testing time for Zoran," he said wistfully in a characteristic drawl redolent at times of both Michael Caine and Sean Connery. "But he's in good spirits, doing some reading and a little bit of writing. Plus the authorities have allowed him to retain his striped shortsleeved shirt and trademark black T-shirt. We've even organised a little musical accompaniment to help him pass the hours."

It would seem that music does indeed soothe the savage beast.
