Ok, so if you ever look at the Baltimore Sun, you know that it's about as useful as your local high school paper. (No offense, High school papers.) I do look at the front page online because there are some local things that happen that it keeps me up to date on ... but I wouldn't say it is my primary news source. Their paper these days kind of shouts "Don't bother reading me! Just use me as litter box liner!" Which I would do, if I didn't already have a quality litter brand that I am loyal to. (Cause newspaper isn't really good for that anymore, anyway.) Most articles in the paper are written by people far far away.
Anywho.
So I called today to cancel our paper subscription - we had been getting the paper purely for the coupons, however, the "Sunday special" somehow turned into 4 days a week. It was only 75 cents a week. I just wanted a coupon or two! But no, they needed to throw their paper at me all the time. It piles up until we have a full recycling bin, at which time Mike lugs it to the street. Too bad we don't live in one of those places where you get rewarded for recycling - because we'd be winners! Anyway, I had to argue with the woman to get her to cancel my subscription.
"How can I help you?"
"I'm calling to cancel my subscription."
"But I see that you only pay 75 cents a week and receive the paper several days a week! This is a $___ savings over newstand price!"
"I read it online."
"But you can't get the crossword online!"
Really? That's what you're going to? You think I want to buy your paper JUST SO I CAN DO A CROSSWORD?!? Come on lady, if I read the ppaer online, don't you think I'd know where to find a crossword site, if I were to be so inclined? Geesh.
"No thank you, I don't do the crosswords."
"How about the coupons? Each week we include $__ worth of procter and gamble coupons!"
Hmm...so now you're partnering with P&G to sell me papers?
"No thank you, please I just want to cancel."
Then she got a little nasty and told me that I owed them $2.02 as a balance on my account for this billing cycle. So I paid, and now I am Sun free. :)
