It's terribly unlikely that Peter and Martin could ever really be friends, but I'm glad to see they've managed a friendly relationship.

I chuckled at the practical, parental though process of well Lucy will wake us up in the morning so we'd better have sex now.

Sadly, they never will be true friends--too much has happened for that. But they are both dedicated to keeping the familial peace.

A large conservatory was visible, jutting off the side of the building, and a pond-complete with swans-could be seen off to their right.

I’m pretty sure staying in a place with its own swans is nothing Peter thought he could ever lay claim to.

Not counting the town swans in Kendal, of course. XD

Lucy was practically bouncing with excitement…

Then she is going to a-splode when she sees Heatherfield!

“We’re guests here, eh?”

“Sorry, Da.”

*No, I shan’t.*

And that will be the one and only time ever that I compare Peter to Sylvia.

He told her often-more than she liked to hear-that she was deserving of being spoilt, that she should allow herself to be pampered every now and again…

*cough*potkettleblack*cough*

She usually fired back with a comment…that he should mind some of his own advice.

Yepyepyepyep.

She glanced over to where Lucy was carrying the bag up the stairs now, then leaned in to him.

*Psssst. SEX.*

He spared the old iron tub a longing glance, suspecting that he and Rose wouldn’t have much of a chance to use it ( ... )

Yeah, that’s definitely not something Peter ever expected to experience.

Oh, yeah.

(I refuse to call her Auntie Ann[e].)

It’s required conscious effort to ensure that the words “Auntie” and “Annie” do not make it into a sentence together or consecutively.

Oh you poor, put-upon man.

You have no idea how he suffers!

As Rose OM NOM NOMs Peter...

And who can blame her? *g*

They were meant to meet Martin for lunch in Glasgow, at a small restaurant near the river.

I’m very glad they’re meeting Martin. I have to admit I was a smidge worried before when you alluded to them being more distant than before that you meant relationship-wise rather than distance-wise.

Lucy had met Martin several times over her life but she was always shy around him, not quite sure what to make of the man who was similar to her da but so very different.

I’d imagine he’ll have some interesting advice for her when she’s a teenager, that’s for sure.

It was still awkward-it probably always would be…

Several decades of bad blood and general troublemaking will do that to you.

…Martin was always a bit unsure of how to act with Rose, and always seemed taken aback when she acted like any other person he might meet on the street.

Is that because she’s Rose Tyler, Vitex Heiress, or because he wouldn’t expect anyone who likely knows all his dirty laundry but has no blood obligation to treat him that nicely?

He reached forward, ( ... )

There *have* been times when that distance has been relationship-wise-but those times are well past.

I’d imagine he’ll have some interesting advice for her when she’s a teenager, that’s for sure.

Martin will most assuredly *not* be afraid to tell it like it is.

Is that because she’s Rose Tyler, Vitex Heiress, or because he wouldn’t expect anyone who likely knows all his dirty laundry but has no blood obligation to treat him that nicely?

A bit of both.

Because the coiffure of an eight-year-old quasi-tomboy is so very intricate. *snerk*

It’s true! ;)

I see what you did there.

It had to be done.

At least Lucy’s not sitting there plonking away on a Game Boy.

That would *not* be well-received by either her mum or her da.

Hey, look, an opinion I share with Martin. I already owned proper albums by the time I was her age.As did I. Peter and Rose are utter failures ( ... )

For such a boisterous child it's nice to see a shy side of her and it makes sence it would be with Martin.

Lucy's pretty outgoing, but even gregarious kids have their shy moments. Martin is such a mystery to her--this man who comes in and out of her parent's lives, who makes both her mum and her dad both tense and happy; she knows there are undercurrents there, but she's got no idea what to make of them.
