100+ Films -- UPDATED

Oct 04, 2008 02:37

For someone who wants to go to Film School, I have come to the realization that unless the film stars Johnny Depp or a Disney-Pixar movie…I probably haven’t seen it. I know who’s in what and the basic plot of many movies, but I’ve just never seen them. We, my sister and I, have decided to remedy this by composing a list of movies and renting them.

I just saw this and I got really excited! I'm a huge film buff and a film major, I plan to work in film as well! I recommend if really want into get into film you would watch these:

Foreign language:
Seven Samurai or (Shichinin no samurai) (1954): Every film student knows that movie. Just a classic great film

M (1938) it's in german and great movie to watch. It's no bloody stuff. Just old fashion thriller.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006): I didn't see this on your list! You have to watch this film. Same director who did Hellboy but I thought he did a brilliant job. I recommend if you have a weak stomach don't eat during this movie. It's a fairytale for adults. XD

Classic filmsAlso every Audrey Hepburn movie made. Paul Newman as well ( ... )

Thanks for the list :D I've added most of those to my queue at Netflix...I danced around the westerns though. For some reason, I cannot stand westerns. My dad loves them, but I hate them...I kept Butch Cassidy though.

Pan's Labyrinth
I own this already :D Love it.

Bobby
I have to think about this one...I'm not into political movies (or about political families) mostly because Hollywood just can't keep their opinions out of everything. Probably because some of my views tend to conflict with theirs (and that is partly why I'm hesistant to watch Platoon My dad is a Vietnam vet and despises what Oliver Stone did and how he represented the war, but I added it anyway).

Pulp Fiction
Seen this (or at least most of it)...My mom put it on one night. And I know I'll know stoned to death, but...I'm not a big fan of Quentin Tarantino... it's kind of like how I hate Andy Warhol in art history.

Some movies I've seen but didn't list (or at least what I can remember ( ... )

Bobby is not really about politics, just much more about the people who were affected the day that he died.

I get what you are saying about Pulp Fiction I know people who are in film are not a fan of his movies.

OOH I noticed you put Pride and Prejudice. Watch the BBC version too with Colin Firth and if you like Hugh's movies watch Sense and Sensibility. I love his character in it.

LOL @ American Pie. I know. A total dude film. :D

Alrighty. And I already have Sense and Sensibility...my list is already out of date...I've been adding so many movies today that I decided that it would be impossible to keep up. :)

Whats wrong with just Pixar and Johnny Depp :) Those are my favs too! But I just couldn't help but suggest some more XD

-Io Non Ho Paura Watched it last year in my Italian class. It was absolutely beuatiful.
-Pulp Fiction
-Pride and Prejudice The newer one with Keira Knightley
-Kill Bill (some people don't like Quentin, but I really enjoyed the two Kill Bill movies)
-The Machinist Creepy Christian Bale movie. Loooooved what they did with the music. Made it seem like an old, mystery movie.
-The Big Lebowski It was okay, I can see why people are like OMGGGGGG but then again, you kinda have to be into Jeff Bridges and or slacker movies
-hard Candy Ellen Page is in it.
-Bobby I second this suggestion.
-Girl, Interuptted Almost like a female version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. But then again, not really.

We talk about films over at my LJ a lot. I have a ton of recommendations and should link you to a recent exchange over at my journal which includes the names of several films. I was always going to go to film school and instead turned to writing (well, I always wrote), but you go, girl. You're obviously a highly visual person.

A few that come to mind (and many of these are going to be international or indie), and forgive me if I repeat any that you've seen or that are on your "to watch" list:

My Brilliant Career
Barton Fink
Wings of Desire
Lust, Caution
My New Gun
Secretary
Spanglish
The Sweet Hereafter
After Life (or it might be 'afterlife')
Three Seasons
Bliss
A History of Violence
Scotland, PA
Red
Blue
My Wife is an Actress
Truly, Madly, Deeply
The Girl in the Cafe
Vanya on 42nd Street
G.I. Jane (really, it is quite good and Viggo Mortensen is amazing in it)
The Ice Storm
American Beauty
Snow Cake
The Adjuster
The Constant Gardener
Dead Ringers
