lawn parties

I just came back from lawn parties on the street. It's a very interesting concept, so I'm going to explain. Upperclassmen don't have meal plans through the school here, so the majority of them eat all their meals at eating clubs. There are 10-11 clubs, all beautiful mansions, in a row on Prospect Avenue, more commonly called "the street." That's also where most people go out on Thursday nights/the weekends. The clubs, however, have been closed this past week, so we have mostly been moving the festivities to the front or back lawns of the clubs. Today the clubs officially opened with the "lawn parties," and the clubs all had free music, food, alcohol, etc. But there's a catch; there's a certain dress code established for these eating clubs. Girls must go decked out in the sundresses and pearls (with only the slightest variations, you get the idea). Guys go out in their preppiest clothes as well. For most, that consists of long-sleeve button-down shirts, a tie, and shorts. I've discovered, however, that the best, most preppiest outfits are those that completely clash. I saw countless guys today mixing plaids with stripes, wearing cotton candy pinks shorts with mint green tops, purple shirts, J Crew was ever so popular, etc. My friend was so amazed that he kept whipping out his camera phone to take pictures of these ridiculous outfits. This could only happen at Princeton...
