Kyle Rayner is free, and for a brief moment he feels a connection with the crispy air around him and the simple freedom and joy of a man in flight. Combined with the simple joy that freedom brings was the knowledge he would soon be reunited with Jenny and the rest of his friends ( Read more... )

"No doubt it's a trap, poozer. Here's some more bad news. We took a close look at that toaster you dropped off with us, and it don't look good. That whole 'power battery in the skull' thing might look like a funky new weakness to exploit, but we think we figured out WHY they'd go and do that."

Time to drop the science.

"The energy in the Oan power battery is all based off the color spectrum of willpower in the universe. Green's the strongest, which is why we're all such badasses, natch. Yellow's the weakest, I think you all know that drill. Red's what these tin cups are usin'. It's artificial, the kinda willpower you get when you're not a sentient being. It's unique - it's weaker than us because there's no true will behind it, which is why we can generally kick their heads in when push comes to shove - but it's nothin' to sneeze at."

"But here comes the kicker. It's also unique in that it can BOND with true will. They're not just draining power to make us weak now... they're doin' it to boost their OWN power, too. Not every ringslinger's wily enough to take down a Manhunter without the energy backin' 'em up, so once they drain most rings, it's power they have to hit us harder. Can't be sure how they plan to USE that power, but you can bet it ain't gonna be somethin' we'll kick our feet up and enjoy."

He shakes his head. "Seriously, poozers, it's us and a buncha rookies. If we don't put a stop to this, it ain't stoppin'. We need every ring we got. Where the frag's Grey?"

Arisia looks toward Kilowog for a few moments and frowns, thinking things out as she speaks, "Do we know how much they can contain, Kil? I mean, could the bond to the Central Power Battery or are we talking singular rings bonded to singular Manhunters?"

As if that wasn't bad enough but it could be worse....

"Not sure, Riz. Looks like they got certain parts that self-destruct if they sense they're about to buy the farm, so we couldn't get complete schematics and capabilities. But each one, we know, can at least draw out a fully charged ring."

"Ookay... that explains what just happened to me. I had the ring drained, so I had to recharge it in a Manhunter's head after Jade helped me bust it up... but I think I've got some of the Red power, too. So far, it's amped me up a bit, but I'm not sure if I'll have any long-term effects from it."

"Heyyyy... waitaminute.

I think Travis ran into a crazy street chick in Ney York that had somethin 'off' in her her. Like she was possesed by a Manhunter..or somethin.."

Guy scratches his head. What were the details??

"Is THAT where Travis is? Someone should get a hold of him. The Manhunter Prime, or whatever its called, said she could destroy all life on the planet. I don't know when they started to care about THAT, though. Did you get a look at that girl?"

He shows the holo image again, dirtied-up blonde girl with strange, unnatural blue eyes.

"Well if we kin just draw the power back out, it kinda kicks thier plans in the nuts...don't it?"

"But what about the Lanterns that don't get a chance to pull it back out? Like Kilowog said, some of them are just too new to be ready for this."

"Kyle's right, Gardner. Most o' these greenhorns'll have panic attacks the minute they can't point and shoot with the ring anymore. It ain't easy takin' down a Manhunter with your bare hands. Frag, poozer, if we live through this, I could use more of yer help back on Oa to start kickin' these mutts into an actual Corps."

Guy nods at Hal and Kilawog's concerns.

"One of us should head to Oa and give the other vets like Salakk the scoop so the noobs kin start learnin that trick."

Guy gets a pained look at the idea of nursemaid duty...but it doesn't change the fact that Killawog is right.

Besides? Who better to provide a proper Role Modle?

"..yeah.. yeah Okay. I could probobly do some part time coachin."
