Distress Call

Sep 25, 2005 23:16

Kyle had spent most of the morning buying groceries from the store, and simple enjoying the sunlight as he walked around the city. Strange weather had been happening in most of the country and the world, but New York had been left untouched for the most part giving people the much needed break before winter set in completely ( Read more... )

"Holy flamin' crap, that thing's HUGE."

He's got a squad of about forty rookie Lanterns behind him, all looking uncertain, some of them employing the ring to help them not leave evidence of their loss of bladder control, and he turns to them, steely and commanding in tone.

"All right, poozers, listen up, because this is learnin' with your feet put to the fire. Rule number one, KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. We got no idea what this thing's capable of, so juice up your will and if you gotta engage, be as far away as you can. Rule number two, keep tuned into the ring for updates from the vets - we'll be keepin' you posted and what we find out, and we'll tell you what we need outta ya. That means your bright ideas ain't bright, Sargus. Keep yer overflowin' 'genius' in line this time!"

Sargus nods nervously. "Got no ideas on this one, chief."

"Fine. You poozers are the last ditch. Now I'm goin' in to get a better look. 2828 the Uxor guy and Vath, you're with me, you'll be flankin' me. Koltor Zal, you're in charge back here, and I'm trusting your Thanagarian ass not to be too eager to charge into a fight for once. Do I got yer word on this that you'll think like a tactician instead of a droolin' barbarian?"

Zal glares, but nods.

"Good. This is a bigger fish than I'd want you to fry, considering where yer at, so don't get cocky. None o' you. That's you, too, Squeeb. Keep yer heads on straight and yer eyes open. Pay attention."

With that, he's off, with two rookies flanking him... to get a closer look at what they're up against. They move quickly.

Fraggin' Imperiex...

"Son of a... "

The ring broadcasts what Kilowog sees to all Lanterns, even the approaching Earth guys.

"Big purple guy looks like he's about to go mining fer earwax on Mogo. He's got a little shiny silver dude with him that's got some serious juice..."

You said nothing about the silver one, Kilowog! Request permission to engage!

"Permission DENIED, poozer! Don't make me regret givin' you responsibility for your whole class!"

The Thanagarian grumbles, but nods assent, and begins coordinating his fellow trainee Lanterns in the construction of a shared-power mobile artillery unit.

The Silver Surfer turned his attention to the strange creature calling out orders. He had faced down countless armies while serving his master and could recognize a leader instantly. He guides his board over in the direction of the strange alien with his will, similair infashion to the GL's use of their rings.

He does not engage the creature yet, simple speaks out in a voice that had a soft undertoning of nobility to it.

"Strange creature cease your actions and leave now. You cannot stand before the might of my master. Your actions are fruitless acts that will only bring your deaths.

Kilowog, flanked by two of his rookies who have been coached to keep their strongest shields up, swoops in towards Giant Purple Hat Man, heading towards his face to try and address him, only to be confronted by the Silver Dude, spouting about his master. He puts on his best 'official' tone.

"You are aiding and abetting the assault of a planetary body and a sentient being. Cease and desist at once, by order of the Green Lantern Corps."

He knows better than to think this will work, but there's always the off-chance they could just be lost and confused.

But he's got the beefy shields on... all three of them. His shield's stronger than the other two put together at this point.

"Who is the Green Latern Corps to stand in the way of the devourer? He has feed upon countless worlds, and no army has yet to oppose him and succeed. I will not warn you again."

The Surfer's voice is stern, as his pupiless, white eyes spark with cosmic energy. He doesn't move threatening, but anyone near him could sense the building of energy all around him.

Kilowog is patching this conversation through to everyone wearing a ring. We got ourselves a DEVOURER.

"Well, that planet your big purple master is trying to feed on happens to be a friend of ours. So kindly take yerselves to some place a little less ALIVE if he's gotta be devourin' things, all right?'

"You were warned."

Without another word the surfer raise both hands in Kilwog's direction unleashing matching bolts of cosmic energy from his hands, allowing both to slam into his shield.

The second both bolts leave his hands he fires two more rapidly in the direction of the two flanking the alien, the bolts are powerful, but not as powerful as the first to he had building up in himself.

WHAMMMMMMM!

Kilowog was prepared... but not for the Power Cosmic. He goes spiraling backwards out of control, having to fight not to black out immediately... and his two flankers go spinning out as well, not really needing the full power blast.

Kilowog manages to snap off an incoherent ring-message to all.

"POWER they're POWERFUL hit me with hit me - "

The pain's gotta pass... it's GOT to...

Surfer waste little time, willing his board to bring him closer to the group of rookies setting up the artillery positions in the background. The board speeding towards them, Cosmic Energy aimed for as many individuals as he can hit.

Fire and scatter!

The artillery positions get off one or two shots apiece before being blasted into nothingness, and half the rookies pass out from the aftershock. Koltor Zal, however, with more experience in flight, manages to evade the shockwave, then doubles back - forcing all his willpower into shields while gripping his Nth metal mace.

Sometimes the old ways are the best...

Though the Surfer could easily engage in melee combat, he rarely does. He sticks to the same strategy the Corps teach their members, and stays at a distance. Willing his board to stay out of range, circling the creature while shooting cosmic energy at him.

A trained Thanagarian, he evades blast after blast - until finally, just as he's about to get into melee range, he fails to dodge. Power Cosmic slams into the rookie Lantern, and only his triple-strength shields keep him alive as he falls unconscious... and his fingers slack and release the Nth metal mace.

"You fought well."

The surfer's voice is devoid of emotion when he speaks to his former opponent. He noticed the wormhole opening, but ignores the beings who came out of it. The World Ship has defenses of its own, and his task isn't to protect the ship. Its to clear a path to the planet.

"Kilowog!"

There isn't anyone around her to hear her but the exclaimation is still made to space. It takes her a few moments to get his co-ordinates from the ring and then to open a wormhole to Mogo but it cuts down on her travel time, even if she is a little more tired once she's there.
