Amazing Man brings the plane down nearby in a fairly ... well, amazing landing on desert sand.

"Looks like the future people get all the fun," he says to Wildcat and Mid-Nite. Polly and I'll be here to back you up."

Wildcat flashed a grin that hadn't changed in years as he cracked his knuckles once.

"Oh, one thing about Degaton, he's always got plenty of goons. Should be enough to go around eventually. After I soften 'em up some."

He was halfway out the hatch when he called over his shoulder.

"Try to keep up, Doc"

Doc quickly passes him, with a slight smirk.

"I'll do my best, Wildcat."

Within moments, the duo is entering the building. Pieter's goggles are working overtime, scanning for the slightest irregularities.

This is likely to be magic they're dealing with, if Dr. Fate is involved. There can be no mistakes.

The inside of the warehouse is pitch black ... although it's clean, and seems to have been in recent use. Boxes are stacked high against the walls, with markings in German ... Russian ... Japanese ... English.

Guns ... grenades ... a few electronic devices which are scarcely recognizable, even to 2007 eyes.

But toward the back is a shadow ... a sihoulette of a man, stnading very, very still.

The doctor freezes, holding a fist up to silently freeze Wildcat as well.

It only takes a slight adjustment of his goggles to bring the silhouette into a focus that he can see.

The figure comes into focus ... the cape ... the half-helmet.

Kent Nelson ... the original Doctor Fate ... standing immobilized, arms akimbo, as though he were asleep standing up.

A deep breath.

He can't say he knows much about this incarnation of Fate.

His partner, however, most likely would.

"It is this era's Dr. Fate," he whispers to Wildcat. "Eerily still. I can't tell if he's in a trance or if he is being held like this against his will."

Suddenly, Kent Nelson's eyes snap open, and with surprising speed, his hands rise, grabbing at Mid-Nite's throat.

Startled, Doc rears backwards, unable to avoid the lunge, but attempting a counterstrike with an instinctive grab towards a chemical spray that should, with any luck, disorient Fate...

The chemical spray does stagger him a moment, forcing him back, out of reach of Mid-Nite's throat.

But it disappears in a twinkle of light, and after a moment of disorientation, he's back, zombie-like, on the attack.

It gives the doctor time to step back into a fighting stance to deflect the attack and keep some distance by light footwork... which is really just a feint.

He's really listening for Wildcat's approach, so he can duck to cover Ted's charge. He'll be able to restrain him long enough to get a diagnosis.

That doesn't stop him from analyzing Fate's biological functioning through his goggles. Looking for some kind of signal if it's a remote mind control, or something else signifying an alteration of body chemistry...

Luckily, as quiet as Wildcat can be. He can run like a rhino charging when he had a need to. And seeign an old teamate trying to strangle one of his current ones was more than good enough reason to telegraph this.

"Head down, Doc!"

Before a diving jump sent him flying over Midnite's back and into Fate's chest shoulder first. A roll to his feet later and he's grabbing for the dazed man's arm to twist it behind his back.

"Dammit Fate, snap outta it!"

He drops down almost before Ted gives the warning, and he follows Wildcat's charge with a bolo whipped at Fate's ankles.

The sooner they get him restrained, the sooner they can get answers...

The combination of their efforts force Kent Nelson to the ground, but he's far from out. With a surprisingly strong shrug, Nelson knocks Wildcat away from him. Then, he begins to glow with energy, incinerating the bolo.

He raises his hand, and a torrent of energy erupts, knocking his enemies away from him and demolishing a wall.

The Witch Queen has ordered the Justice Society's demise. So shall it be.

Doc hits the wall hard, slumping down and trying to keep his head from ringing long enough to parse what Fate said.

"Witch Queen," he mutters, questioningly... "Who is the Witch Queen, Dr. Fate?" he asks, hoping to take the conversation tack instead... and hoping getting him talking might give him time to collect himself.

The question seems to stop Fate for a moment, as Nelsonn turns and regards Mid-Nite for a moment. But only for a moment. With a wave of his hand, he swats the two heroes aside with mystical force.

You two will keep. There are greater threats outside.
