Four years ago I decided to sign up for the gay softball league on the urgings of my friend from Stage Q, Steve (who I had a crush on). He ended up not signing up (he did that a lot) but I decided to stick it out and meet new people. I got assigned to the Orange team, which was fine since I actually didn't know anyone in the entire league of 70 some players. I made a lot of good friends, mostly on my team, and played almost every position except pitcher.
The next year I signed up again and asked to be on Orange again. I met more people in the league, people from other teams. I continued to play random positions and overall improved as a player. I also met my first boy friend though a teammate. The relationship didn't last past the summer, but I still think it was a good experience.
Two years ago they moved me to picther when we accidently discovered that I was a half-way decent one. The previous picther (and coach for the team) needed time off due to a foot injury. That was the first year of the all lesbian (except me) infield and the first year that Orange actually did well in the rankings. We finished in a three way tie for first place. Friends continued to grow.
Last year I continued as picther and pretty much knew everyone in the league. I was popular enough to be invited to events outside of softball games and grew to know people outside of sports. I met my second boy friend that year and went to a tournament in Milwaukee where I met players and fans from other cities. That relationship ended on good terms and we still see each other at many events. Orange continued to be one of the better teams in the league.
This year I was made secretary of the league, was given a lot of responsibility and am generally well known enough that I see friends around town all the time. Though these contacts I joined gay bowling, euchre tournaments and a gay outdoors group. Me and my (now) ex-boy friend are starting a gay volleyball league also. Tonight I go to Club 5 as the coach of the Orange team and hope to give someone the chance to enrich their life even a fraction of what softball did for me.

In other news, we played so awesome last night. Em was there and she was a bit worried that the month off made her forget how to play. But we did well, worked really hard for our three wins and had a great time. The other team kinda whined at the ref a lot, which is just dumb. It gets you no where and possibly makes him pissed at you and he starts calling your team tighter. More Em playing tonight, so I hope it is just as fun. After some beer (with
spamcola, thanks for coming out, nice to see you), Em and I went to TGI Fridays for late dinner. Very sore today, mostly my knees, but todays work right now looks light.
