Weird Irony in Footcare

Jun 03, 2009 15:39

There are some days where, try as you will, things just seem to fall into place. Today is one of those days that also falls into the category of ironic.

I don't cut my own toenails any more, as long as I can help it. It's been about six weeks since I had my toenails cut, and I had been looking for a place to have them done, since the original place that I went to stopped their in-clinic service and now only does it for $45 in one's home, and the second and third places that I had tried just didn't gel with me, and I couldn't get into the services. I had a recommendation to try the Ottawa East End Clinic, and so that was where I went for the first appointment to have my toes and feet done today.

So I get to the clinic this afternoon, and fill out the forms. Hand them back to the secretary, and she tells me that I'll be seeing the same specialist that a good friend of mine sees, and that her name is Helen. I wait about ten more minutes, and a nice looking woman with blonde hair comes out to greet me. She then says the following: "Hi, there," in a nice British accent. "You must be John, right? My name is Helen...Helen Cutter."

You could have slain me with a pole right then and there, and I think my knees did buckle for just a moment right then and there, for just a sec. Why, you ask? Well for those of you who are familiar with a tv series called Primeval, there is a villain in the series called...you guessed it... Helen Cutter!

Anyway, the appointment went really well, and my feet feel much better than they have for the last few weeks. We had a lovely conversation, and it turns out that Helen is very much a fan of British tv series, and even knows of Primeval. We had a good laugh about her name and all, and the comparisons with the tv character and other stuff. And the whole time, she cut my toenails and cleaned up my feet and all. Lovely, ironic day.

Oh, and for those who know nothing of Primeval, you can check out the Wikipedia Primeval Page.
