We continue on today with #RPGaDay2023 for August.
Day 16 - Game you wish you owned
This is one of those questions that can open up a serious can of worms, but it's a fun one for the day. There are a lot of different roleplaying games that I wish I owned (and quite a few that I've got these days that I wish I didn't, to be honest, but that's another matter...). One of the rpgs that I wish I (still) owned is the
Bunnies & Burrows RPG, originally published by Fantasy Games Unlimited in 1976, with a second edition in 1992, and a third edition from Frog God Games in 2019.
I had actually bought the original, 1st Edition of the game by Fantasy Games Unlimited back in late 1976 or 1977, as the concept of the game was quite intriguing to me, though I didn't know a lot about rabbits other than what I'd seen of them and looked up in the library. I didn't buy the 2nd Edition when it came out in 1992, let alone the GURPS Bunnies & Burrows version of the game when that came out, as I hadn't really run the game a lot during the 1980s and early 1990s, as there were a *ton* of other rpgs and I actually ran various games during that period. And the players, and I, had perhaps outgrown rabbits.
Then Frog God Games published the 3rd Edition of Bunnies & Burrows in 2019...and I didn't buy it, since I still had my copy of the original from 1976 and considering that I wasn't running the game, didn't figure I needed another version of the game even if it had been updated supposedly. And then I got hit with the damned sewage flood in my basement, and lost a whole bunch of clothes and items including various roleplaying games - one of which was, you guessed it, the Bunnies & Burrows RPG. To make a long story short, I didn't rush out and buy the new version of the game or try to find a copy of the original (heck, or even the 2nd Edition or the GURPS book) since there were other...priorities...when it comes to rpgs and other items that needed replacing.
But I miss that game a lot these days, especially in the doom and gloom world that we've been living in since COVID-19 came on the scene. While a lot of people are embracing the darker games that are being produced by the gaming industry these days, games like the Bunnies & Burrows RPG hark back to a time of lighter gaming and entertainment and are sorely missed by this gamer. And being a rabbit has to be easier than being a human these days, right?
But I can wish, can't I?
And there you have it, my thoughts on this sixteenth day of #RPGaDay for August, 2023.
Comments, thoughts, questions, etc. are all welcome, of course. :)
