Final Day of 2022

Dec 31, 2022 10:18

It's the last day of 2022.

Thank Goddess this year is coming to an end. While there have been some good moments this past year, 2022 will be primarily remembered for the year that the COVID-19 pandemic continued, the sheer number of deaths around the world. To make things worse, the Omicron variant that we're dealing with now (the seventh wave? the eighth wave?) is much more contagious, though seemingly not as lethal, but there are a *lot* of people ill with the virus, and the worst is likely yet to come. Insidious. Adding to the misery of the year was the number of deaths of beloved figures in both music and entertainment and the senseless slaughter of too many people world-wide in acts of terrorism and sheer evil. (Yes, I'm looking at you, Vladimir Putin and your gutless attack on the people of Ukraine, and hope you have a *rotten* New Year.) Yes, even with the pandemic present all over the world, people and countries still continued their deplorable behaviour instead of cooperating and working together to deal with the coronavirus. Even with the fifth (I think, I've lost track) booster vaccine shots, the virus continues to plague the world, though at least the Omicron variant isn't as lethal. So there is that positive. Add to that the rough, at times miserable, periods I've had this year health-wise (especially during July and November, and a not great December), and in other regards that I've not discussed this year, and when you throw in the sheer isolation that the pandemic has forced on a lot of us, especially if you're a 67-year-old single male, and... Well, to reiterate, good riddance to 2022.

It's a Saturday morning here in Ottawa. It's atypical of the weather we normally experience, being relatively warm at 9oC and raining, so it's relatively cold and damp, though not snowing at the moment, so I'm in a good deal of pain. I'm sitting here at home taking it relatively easy, though I need to go out and do the grocery shopping this afternoon. Just hope I'm up to it.

Now if I could just shake how cold I feel, which doesn't help with the aches and pains, perhaps I'd feel better. Maybe another shower later today.
