CanGames Cancelled for 2022

Sad news on the gaming front here in Ottawa.

The local gaming convention, CanGames, that is usually held here in Ottawa the long Victoria Day weekend in May, has been cancelled for this year once more. The folks from the convention posted to Twitter (and presumably to another couple of sites, but not the CanGames webpage noted above for some reason) yesterday about the cancellation of the convention, and cited their reasons for doing so.

I can understand the decision to cancel the convention for 2022 and the reasons to do so, to be honest, and I think it's the right thing to do notably because of the curling club venue's size and the proximity at which gamers tend to occupy space next to other gamers, and the final fact that some gamers don't tend to consider hygiene at conventions all that often (and in these COVID-19 times (even if the situation is slowly getting better). Part of me really hopes that the convention committee finally makes the decision, in light of the last few years and the nature of the curling club venue, to move the convention to a small hotel or other venue that is more suitable to the convention when it comes to health concerns and food concerns. I don't know if that will happen, but I sincerely hope it does.

Still, I will miss CanGames 2022 this year. *sigh*

Ah, well...guess I have to look forward to CanGames in 2023.
