A Sunday Afternoon of Britannia

Yesterday's gaming session with the Sunday gaming group was a pretty good one, and a good distraction from the ongoing home computer problems and glitches at the moment.

spross and Tammy arrived around 1:00 pm, and we decided to play something that I was surprised that Tammy agreed to: Britannia. I haven't played the game since some time last year, so it was nice to get back to this, and I needed to exorcise a bit of anger in a relatively non-threatening way, though Tammy was concerned that I might play the game too aggressively. :)

We're using the first edition of the game, not the new version of the game, but it still plays very well. I played the blue (taking on the Belgae, Picts, Angles, and Normans), and I had a good game of it and enjoyed myself. With only the three players for the game, we decided to play the purple (Romans/Romano-British, Scots, Dubliners, and Norwegians) as a group. We didn't complete the game, only reaching Turn 10, the Dubliners, Norwegians, Danes, Norsemen, and Normans never got into the game, but it was a satisfying afternoon of board gaming for me. I'm not going into details on the game here, but the final scores were as follows...

Purple (Group) 54
Green (SteveR) 49.5
Red (Tammy) 67
Blue (JohnK) 57

I had a couple of good moves during the game, and did relatively well with the Angles, but I couldn't roll "5"s or "6"s to save my life, which is what you need to successfully win an attack. That cost me with the Belgae, as I couldn't even kill any of the Roman soldiers and wasn't around to attack their limes. That said, Tammy used a good strategy with her Saxons, and kept my Angles pretty much at bay. spross, on the other hand, just collected points for killing some Romans and then kept his Welsh and Caledonians in their home territories, and saw his Jutes eliminated relatively early.

Still, it was a fun afternoon of board gaming that kept me from thinking about other things. And I am looking forward to getting back to roleplaying games after the convention.
