Long Hours

I worked my first 11 hour shift yesterday in an Emergency Room, which really ends up being something of like 12 hours because I arrived early and then had to stay twenty minutes late to finish up with the patient I started. The hard part is that the shift stated at noon and ended at 11pm. I have to completely change my sleep schedule. But overall, I really enjoyed the ER. I got to suture this guy's leg who had walked into a horseshoe stake. It was the perfect patient to suture for the first time, he actually was the one who suggested I do it even though he knew that my only experience in suturing was on a pig's foot. The other nice part about this rotation is that I only have to work three days a week and I can choose which days I want to work. If I don't show up one day everyone will just assume I am working another day. Also, I am working directly with the physician assistants, which I really like. Last week I had a sense of dread about this rotation, but now it seems that feeling was unwarrented.
