Coheed's main influences are Rush and Iron Maiden, where they get that catchy edge to their music while still maintaining to be experimental with their arrangements and progressions, obviously a Rush inspiration. If you really listen hard, you can hear Claudio flip between Rush and Maiden melodies while still remaining unique with his poppy harmonization over alternative instrumentation. They're really good for both the casual listener and the music fanatic as long as you can like his voice. That seems to be the turn off for most people who don't listen past vocals. The concentrate on his funky tone and off-the-wall lyrics not realizing that it's part of an ongoing saga and it just happens to be a dark part of the story. You and I both know that's not the case. He's unique sounding, a rarity in today's music scene, and people's perception of music are hard to adjust. I feel they'll be appreciated justly when we look back on the music of this decade with the pop-emo, hip-hop main stream scene
