So, its been a while since I posted here, and I think I'd like to maybe get this started up again or something. So in an effort to be relevant here is the current contents of my brain:
I just bought the new Coheed and Cambria CD. So far its quite good, but one thing strikes me immediately. The lack of liner notes, or any sort of addition to the album. Its just a cardboard sleeve with the CD inside. Kinda anticlimactic. I like having some sort physical representation to go with the audio, but this one sadly lacks any. It seems strange for the final installment of a story that's supposed to span 4 albums, but whatever. The CD so far is quite good though.
Coheed unfortunately gets pigeonholed in all the wrong ways. They get casually dismissed as Emo, or Pop-punk or some other mainstream sub-genre, for the simple reason that they write moderately poppy songs in major keys (Most of the time). But if I were to compare them to anyone it would be Rush. Coheed seems to be a band that spawned after growing up listening to the entire Rush collection. And I am in no way saying that is a bad thing. Its just the obvious influence. The Sci-fi epic that spans multiple albums, is something Rush created, as well as the addition of electronic sounds to their albums. And Claudio's voice is quite reminiscent of Geddy Lee, as well as some of the guitar playing reminds me of Alex. But sadly no Neil Pert on drums, which at times can be slightly unoriginal and simplistic. But it gets better on this album.
So yea, Go buy it. Its worth it, especially if you like Coheed.
Also, apparently its the apocalypse. It happens.
Yea, all of Southern California is on fire... from Malibu to San Diego. Its kinda interesting as one of the fires is very close to my house, and it was raining ash for about 2 days. That made for a very surreal experience, hauntingly beautiful even. The ash in the sky tinted everything orange, and gave everything a very washed out feel. This coupled with the very poor air quality and the oppressive heat and dryness made for a very surreal, even alien experience.
It is also interesting, because a few days ago I was wondering what it would be like if our sky was any other color. Because having a blue sky is such a calming apocalypse. Being able to look up and see a blue sky dotted with white clouds seems to sooth and calm. But what if the sky was another color, red or something more harsh. Well I was able to experience that the other day, and while it seemed interesting at the time, its not something I would like to live under.
But it seems to be clearing up now. And thats nice, there has been so much destruction recently, and its good that they might be getting the fires under some semblance of control now.
So yea, that's my brain as of now, hopefully more to come, as long as I keep remembering to do so.
