Vanuatu Cyclone ReliefWhere:
Vanuatu, a country of just over a quarter of a million people spread over 86 islands in the South Pacific. One of the most beautiful, diverse, and welcoming places in the world.
What happened:
Cyclone Pam, one of the strongest Pacific storms on record, which managed to make landfall over nearly all of those 86 islands this weekend. Communication lines to the outer islands are down, but in the capital of Port Vila 90% of buildings have been damaged or destroyed. Much of the population relies on subsistence farming and Pam destroyed those crops. Food and water are the biggest concerns.
What you can do:
Make a donation to one of the disaster relief funds listed after the cut. If you are unable to donate, spread the word to others. Thank you for reading.

And I suspect that with the way the world's climate is going we're only going to see more of this kind of thing happening in years to come, quite possibly much closer to home too.
