Happy Birthday Grandma

Jan 25, 2005 17:09

My grandmother's 90th birthday was January 20th. I thought about her most of the day, which is not unusual because I usually think about her at least once a day. My grandfather passed away when I was 9 in Jan 1983, I turned 10 later that year. By then my sister, mother, and I had been living with my grandmother and my great uncle, who was partially paralyzed since birth. I was the guy in the house lifting Uncle Mike when he fell among other things. He passed away when I was 17 in May 1991. Then it was the four of us. Me and three generations of women. Shortly after her 85th birthday, we found out grandma had cancer. On March 27, 2001, at 11:44pm, she passed away.

She has missed my sister at the Welk Resort Theater in South Pacific, The Music Man, Hello Dolly, The Desert Song, and others. She has missed me as an on air personality on FM949, although she wouldn't have liked the music. She missed me fighting my way into law school, being accepted to Glendale University College of Law, and moving out of the house and up to Glendale, CA. She missed my mom retiring from school teaching after 44 years.

She is missed.

Grandma is still a part of our lives but visiting her grave site or looking at her picture isn't the same. I feel her presence and her strength with me when I've had to make some tough but right decisions.

Happy Birthday Grandma

I'll be posting more often I hope, writing down ideas about law school, family, friends, radio, love, and everything else...for now,

Until later
