Review: CLAMP Gakuen Tantei Dan - Ep. 1

Apr 10, 2006 19:52

Since I was at it today I also got the chance to watch CLAMP Gakuen Tantei Dan.
The opening is childish but nice.
The episode is nothing else but a remake of the first story of the manga with some differences. First of all it's not placed in Christmas time so the party the boys want to celebrate on Tokyo Tower is the one of the founder.
Then the guy who wants to stole the old Lady's house (her stepbrother) is more like a Yakuza were in the manga he was more of a comic figure.
The problem is also solved in a more dramatic manner than the manga.
In the manga Nokoru buy the house then force the lady's stepbrother to refund him with a trick (He persuade him to rent him a room in his office then fills it with wild animals. To get them out the guy must pay Nokoru a high fee).
In the anime the stepbrother tries to kill of the lady while she's on Tokyo Tower and Nokoru as well for trying to stop him. The man ends up slipping and finds himself dangling. Nokoru forces him to sign a contract that give the house to the lady then save him.
Actually i preferred the manga version. It was funnier while the 'drama' used in the fight just didn't fit (beisdes it seems done to show Nokoru facing danger when he's usually the less combactive due to his lack of physical abilities. So okay, when a woman is involved he can do everything but still...).
The ending is cute.
Colours are bright (even if my subbed version isn't of the best quality), Akira is adorable and very sweet (and somehow makes me think of a more lively, more happy version of Subaru), the funny expressions are amusing, Nokoru has his charm and Suoh is cool in fighting scenes. Chara design isn't bad... at least I like it and I find it close enough to the original...
