Chapter One (Sian)
So i've been in Tangir for a day and I already miss Sophie like crazy. A part of me wishes I hadn't of had to leave her but then I think about everything I said to her about how she needed to be able to sort things out with college and her family and that she can do it better without having to constantly worry about me. It's for the best...isn't it.
"Sian, are you ready yet?" my mum calls me from her and Yosef's bedroom. My mum is making me go out to dinner with them even though all I want to do is sit in the hotel room and call Sophie. I look at myself in the mirror, my hair is still wet from the shower I just got out of and I'm still wrapped in a towel, woops.
"not yet mum, can I meet you down in the bar" She pokes her head round the door of my room and sighs when she see's just how un-ready I am
"Fine but don't be too long ok sweetheart" I nod at her and give her a forced smile. I hear the hotel door close. I take my phone off the dresser and press number one on the speed dial calling my baby. She answered after just three rings.
"Sian!" I couldn't stop the grin forming on my face just from the sound of her voice.
"Hey babe, how's things?"
"OK, I guess, my mum's still being a total cow about the whole college thing. I wish you were here Sian, I miss you so much" my heart breaks for my girl as I hear the change in the tone of her voice.
"I know Soph, I miss you too but like I said this is gunna be good for ya, for us"
"If you say so, look Sian i've gotta go my mum's shouting me from downstairs, who knows what I've done now, probably left a speck of dirt on the carpet, heaven forbid anything go wrong before Jeff comes round" she says his name in a mockingly irritating voice and I cant help but laugh slightly
"ok, i'll ring you tomorrow, same time?"
"yeah"
"Ok, I love you Soph, bye" she lets out a half laugh, half sigh down the phone
"I love you an all, bye" I hang up the phone, missing her voice already and wishing the call could have been longer. Suppose i'd better get ready.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Half an hour later and i'm ready to go. I walk down the stairs and out the door towards the bar. I can hear people talking and laughing as I get nearer, I can hear Florence and The Machine playing and I can't help but smile, this song reminds me of Sophie and the festival. What a perfect weekend that was. My mum looks over and sees me and whispers something to Yosef as they both stand up and wait for me. Just as i'm walking over to them a little red headed boy runs past me banging it to me, I lose my balance and suddenly
SPLASH
I come up from under the water coughing and spluttering, I actually cannot believe that just happened. I see my mum and Yosef running over.
"Sian, are you alright love" my mum asks me as Yosef takes bends down and holds his hand out to me, pulling me up out of the water. good thing were in a hot country. I must look a right mess right now.
"Yeah, yeah i'm fine" I look over my mums shoulder and see the little boy who knocked me into the water walking over towards me with a girl who I'm gunna guess is his sister or his cousin or something. She looks like she's my age.
"Hi" she says to me giving me a quick smile "I'm so sorry about my brother, my mam told him to be careful but you know what kids are like" She had a thick irish accent and long red hair "Liam, don't you have something to say?"
"Sorry for knocking you in the pool" I smiled at the little boy who was obviously upset, probably been told off by his mum and dad
"That's alright don't worry about it" he flashed me a smile when he saw that I wasn't angry at him, he Is just a little kid after all, doesn't look much older than 5 or 6. I turn to face my mum and Yosef "mum why don't you two just go to the restaurant without me, i'm not feeling up to it really and I can just grab some food here, it's what these bands are for right" I hold up my wrist with my all inclusive band on it.
"Are you sure darling, do you want me to bring you back some dessert?" I smile and nod
"sure, you two go and have a good time"
"Ok darling, we won;t be too late" She kisses me on the cheek and takes Yosef's hand, he gives me a smile and a little wave. I must admit I actually really like the guy, and he seems to make my mum really happy. I turn back round to face the girl.
"our hotel room's just there" She points to a balcony on the ground floor just behind us "let me give you a towel" She smiles at me and walks towards the balcony grabbing a towel of the side and handing it to me "What's your name? mines Chloe, Chloe Fitzpatrick and of course you've already met my brother Liam." she laughs and I can't help but join in
"I'm Sian, nice to meet ya" Chloe bends down to talk to her brother and I smile, she's really good with him
"Liam go back to Mam and Da ok, i'll be over in a minute" Liam ran off towards a table at the other side of the pool next to the bar. Chloe gets up and smiles at me again "Why don't you come sit with us if your mum and dad have gone out, we're just gunna watch the magic show, Liam loves magic"
"Oh Yosef's not my dad, just my mum's fella" He's a nice guy but he is definitely not my dad, I've already had one dad let me down, don't need a repeat of that again.
"Oh sorry! anyway come and join us" why not, saves sitting alone in the room. I walk over with Chloe to where her mum, dad and Liam are sitting.
"Mam, Da, this is Sian, any chance she can sit with us cause her Mam and boyfriend have gone out to dinner" Chloe's mum looked at me and smiled
"I take it this is the girl Liam knocked in the swimming pool" everyone laughed except for Liam who just looked nervous "have a seat Sian" I sit down next to Chloe who lets me have some of her coke
"Thanks Mrs Fitzpatrick"
"Oh darling that makes me feel so old, you can call me Moira, and this grumpy old man here is my husband Collin"
We all sat around for the next couple of hours and I actually had a really great night. Me and Chloe seem to get on really well and she's really nice. She's my age and she even lives in Manchester because they moved from Belfast and she only lives about 15 minutes away from Coronation Street. Our talk was interrupted by her phone beeping. At this point her parents and Liam had all gone to bed and the bar was slowly emptying. Chloe started telling me all about her boyfriend Warren.
"How long have you been with him then?" I asked her as i sipped my JD and coke, I like the no alcohol age in Morocco.
"14 months now, it's great, he's so lovely." She pulled her phone out and showed me a picture of the two of them. Warren was really tall with Sandy blonde hair and he was good looking. But obviously I only have eyes for one person.
"So, i've told you about my love life, what about you, do you have a boyfriend?" I laughed nervously at her question, not because I was ashamed of the answer to that question, far from it but because I wasn't sure how she'd react, I'd only known her 5 minutes.
"Um no, I uh have a girlfriend actually" She looked a bit shocked for a minute and then just started talking again.
"No need to look so nervous Sian, I don't care if your gay" I must have visibly relaxed because she just smiled at me "tell me about her then, whats her name, how'd you meet her, how long have you been together, spill Powers I wanna know everything!" I couldn't help but laugh at her urgency
"Her name's Sophie" just saying her name makes me grin like an idiot "we were best friends before we got together, known each other for about 3 years now because i moved in with my dad in Weatherfield after he and my mum split up." Chloe nodded her head in understanding when she could see I clearly didn't like to talk about my dad "and we've been together for almost 10 months now, it's not always easy but, she's definitely worth it."
"wow someone has clearly fallen hard, I can tell just by looking at you when you talk about her, you really love her don't you." I grin, not even having to think about my answer
"yeah, I really do."
"So how did your folks react when they found out about you too?" I sigh at her question, I know i barely know the girl but i feel like I can talk to her about this already, we just seem to have clicked.
"well my mum was fine with it, we've never really been that close but she's trying now I guess and as for my dad, I haven't spoken to him in about 5 months now. Sophie's parents were a lot more understanding, they found it difficult, I think her mum still does but there getting there." Chloe could see I was upset after mentioning what happened with my dad, she reached over and gave my hand a quick squeeze.
"I'm sorry about your dad, that's harsh" I took my phone out and found my favourite picture of me and Sophie
"yeah well like I said, Sophie's worth it." I showed her the picture. It was one we'd taken on the day Sally had caught us in bed together, we were in town and I was trying on that really expensive dress and Sophie had grabbed my phone and taken a picture of us. She was stood with her arm wrapped around my neck, resting her head on top of mine. Chloe smiled at it.
"She's pretty" I looked at my watch and saw it was almost 1:30 and i suddenly realised how tired I was
"right I think it's time for me to go to bed" I said with a yawn. We both stood up and hugged "Thanks for a great night Chloe, i had a really fun time with you and your family"
"me too, do you wanna hang out tomorrow? maybe go the beach or something?" I knew i had to call Sophie tomorrow but I didnt have anything else planned for the day and maybe it wouldn't make me miss her as much if I had something to occupy myself with.
"Yeah sure, i'll knock on your door at about 12?" Chloe nodded and we said our goodbyes.
Maybe this holiday won't be so bad after all
