Friday Five Time, Folks

1) Favourite movie of the 1980s?

The absolutely, without a single doubt in my mind most homo-erotic movie of all time...Top Gun. What else can you want besides a song called "Playing with the Boys"; Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer strutting around shirtless; and the BEST movie soundtrack to come out of the 80s?

2) Favourite musician/group of the 1980s?

I think I'll take a pass on that one, since I was only 11 when the decade came to an end.

3) Favourite TV show of the 1980s?

Bar none, the most influential television program for me was Star Trek: The Next Generation. A future where people lived rather peacefully? Where they worked out their problems, mostly, with dialogue instead of guns? A show that brought all four of us together every bloody Saturday night? State of the art (at that time, anyway) special effects? People of different backgrounds coming together for a common cause? Good lord, I'll take the somewhat cheesy acting and occassionally preachy storylines any day of the week.

4) Favourite invention of the 1980s?

Not really invented in the 80s, but we got our first computer in the 80s. Apple II E. Green screen, 5 1/4 inch disks. God I loved that machine.

5) World Event from the 1980s that stands out in your mind?

More than anything, I remember seeing Ryan White on every news program, talk show, newspaper and radio show in the world. About why his school district wouldn't let him into school. His battle to marry his girlfriend. I remember lots of crying, lots of hateful and fearful words and watching this kid waste away to nothing.
