The Passion of the Christ, Mambo Italiano and Just One Time Reviews!!!

Okay, remember how I was doing the "30 Movies in 30 Days" thing last summer? (Fear not, I'm not stupid enough to try it again.) What I am doing, though, is starting to document what I watch on disc, video or in the theater. It will be a comprehensive list, starting with yesterday. I'm doing this to: a) see how much I actually do watch; b) basically for fun; and c) to record an opinion of the movie. Now, this is going to include TV shows too (since at least half of what I have are TV shows).

Oh yeah, I signed up for Netflix too after Ballbuster's prices on Friday. I've already got around 25 movies on my list for them to send. PS: I am still keeping movie stubs, for the record.

February 28:

The Passion of the Christ--I admire Gibson's conviction in making the movie, his use of subtitles all the way through and his unflinching use of violence. That it made $115 million in five days is irrelevant; I admire the movie, but really don't want to see it again if I can help it. 3 Stars

Mambo Italiano--I liked this one so much I just might buy it. I sympathized with Angelo from the get go and reviled Nino the entire way through. The date set up scene is wonderful and an even better, totally G-rated, visual at the end. 3 Stars

February 29:

ER: Season 1-"ER Confidential"--The first Thanksgiving in the ER has Carter treating a man who tries to pass as a female, with disasterous consequences. Andrea Parker is back as Doug's flame. And Susan deals with her depressed boyfriend the shrink. Not the best show in the series, but good enough. 2 1/2 Stars

Just One Time--I still don't know what to think of this movie, in which a man gets his fiancee to agree to be with a woman to fulfill his fantasy. She will do so only if he'll be with the total flamer kid who lives across the street. Add to that his closeted best friend, a couple good lines of dialogue and the beautiful Jennifer Esposito (did I mention all the guys in this movie are firefighters and the closeted best friend is totally hot?). Not offense, not profound, but it shows how shallow people can be. Except for a woefully underwritten and poorly serviced plotline about the best friend...which I correctly pegged during the big "have you ever had a fantasy?" speech in the gym. And then it goes MIA...and comes back...and goes MIA... 2 1/2 Stars
