Solace | poorly written angst and fluff(?)
The rooftop was always the first place Jinhwan went to after a long distressing day.
The night was cold, nothing unusual. Jinhwan was in his favorite hoodie, several blankets draped over his lap, providing him with warmth as he stares into nothingness.
Jinhwan knows, he can only wait for so long. He knows he can only train this much. The bitter taste of failure seems familiar now, awfully raw on his tongue. He knows he can't do much anymore. He doesn't tell anyone about this, afraid of their words and reactions.
Jinhwan isn't the same old Jinhwan anymore.
The old Jinhwan was brave. He was ready to pick up challenges, ready to face the world. He was ready to make a change.
But Jinhwan now finds himself regretting the day he packed his bags and ventured out of Jeju.
He wonders what's in store for him. Whether he'll get there or not.
But for now.
The least he can do is to wait.
"Hyung? It's minus 5 degrees out here! What are you doing?" Jinhwan recognizes the rough scratchiness of the voice and spots the familiar mop of brown hair. He snaps out of his thoughts, a small smile gracing his lips.
"Yunhyeong wanted to play some drinking games but you weren't in your room. Do you know how worried the rest are?" Hanbin chastises Jinhwan, before walking over to sit next to him on the floor. Jinhwan's fiddles his thumbs, guilt gnawing at him. He can't bear to look at Hanbin in the eye. He was too ashamed.
For a while there was nothing but silence, heavy and thick in the atmosphere. Until Hanbin decided to speak up.
"You can't keep doing this hyung. You can't just leave because you feel like it. You can't just be angry at all of us just because you're angry at yourself. You can't keep pushing us away like this. It's bad for all of us and you know it hyung. You know it well."
Hanbin always had a habit of saying whatever that was on his mind.
"Did you know how worried I was?"
It was soft. Almost inaudible. But Jinhwan caught it. And the confession tugged at his heart strings. Hanbin places his palm on Jinhwan's lap before gently taking his hand in his. He intertwines their fingers together, and Jinhwan feels a certain kind of warmth blooming in his chest.
"I'm sorry." Jinhwan mutters, voice a little shaky.
"You should be." Hanbin replies a little too quickly, gaze stern and mouth curled. However the way his thumb brushes softly over Jinhwan's knuckles showed otherwise.
Hanbin exhales a shaky breath.
"I miss you."
The three words seemed to linger in the air, sounding foreign and odd coming out of Hanbin’s mouth. Because Hanbin was always strong. He never really had a weak point.
"Hanbin, we see each other everyday-"
"The old you, hyung. I miss the old you."
Jinhwan freezes, unable to utter a single word.
"I think I'm running out of words to say. And I'm sorry for saying the same things all over again. I don't know how else to convince you, but," Hanbin pauses to take a deep breath, eyes glued on to the floor.
Jinhwan looks at his face and notices the lines marring his forehead, notices the bags under his eyes and the way his cheeks look sunken under the moon light.
Jinhwan realizes, albeit a little belatedly that he isn't the only one who's exhausted.
"It's going to be okay." Hanbin doesn't sound one bit confident but Jinhwan feels assured somehow.
Maybe it's the wind, comforting him in cold wisps and light breezes.
Maybe it's the way Hanbin's eyes look as if they shine with specks of gold underneath the moonlight.
Maybe it's the warmth emanating from Hanbin's palms.
Maybe it's the sound of Hanbin's breathing, so gentle and calm despite the situation in his hands.
Or maybe it's just Hanbin.
But Jinhwan feels so much better.
"You're right."
"About what?"
"Everything."
Hanbin looks puzzled and all Jinhwan wants to do is press his lips against his, to kiss all his worries away. He doesn't do that of course, choosing instead a more logical approach.
"I'm sorry, I always make you guys worry. And I'm sorry for being an insensitive and selfish asshole." Jinhwan starts, stringing his feelings into words.
“It’s tough for all of us, but I have no idea why I’m like this. I really wished I had the answers. I wished I could go back to being the old me. I wished I wasn’t a huge burden. I wished I was more useful. God, I wish someone would fucking fix me.” Jinhwan blurts everything out, the tears that were brimming in his eyes eversince Hanbin came to look for him, finally rolled down his cheeks.
“Stop crying, you look like an idiot.” Hanbin mutters, his hand squeezing Jinhwan’s.
Jinhwan sniffles, but somehow the ache in his heart grew even more overwhelming and his sniffs turned into full choked sobs.
“I said stop it, damn it.”
“I can’t...”
“Gosh, you’re such a baby. Come here.” Hanbin wraps an arm around his shoulder, pulling him into his chest. Jinhwan cries harder, not caring that he’s getting snot and tears all over Hanbin’s shirt.
“Hyung, I’m here. We all are… I want you, to stop worrying. Because the team’s here to fix you. I’m here to fix you. Even if I have to shed blood or tears, I’ll make sure we’ll make it.” Hanbin strokes his hair lightly and he calms down, easing into Hanbin’s touch.
The weight on his shoulders slowly get lighter as he finds himself slumped against Hanbin’s side as the younger whispers words of encouragement into his hair. It’s sufficient for now. Hanbin would suffice for Jinhwan.
After a while, Hanbin’s phone buzzed in his pocket and he quickly checks it.
“Who is it?” Jinhwan rubs his swollen eyes lazily. He looks adorable, Hanbin thinks inwardly, restraining himself from pressing kisses all over the older.
“Junhwe. They’re doing body shots! And its Donghyuk’s turn to drink from Bobby’s stomach.”
“Oh my god- but Donghyuk likes Bobby though? This could actually start something, Hanbin!”
“Exactly! I need to record the whole thing because judging from Junhwe’s text just now, I don’t think the rest of them are sober enough to walk on two feet.”
Jinhwan chuckles, before standing up to his feet.
“Hanbin-ah, thanks.”
“Don’t mention it, anything for you hyung.”
Jinhwan blushes hotly and hopes that Hanbin misses the pink on his cheeks.
“Let’s go?” Hanbin stands up, offering his hand to Jinhwan.
Jinhwan gladly takes it, their fingers intertwining almost naturally by now and Hanbin has to bite his lower lip to prevent his smile from getting all creepily huge.
“Oh and by the way hyung, you have to stop wearing my hoodie all the time.”
This love is perfect | fluff
"You look beautiful."
Jinhwan turns at the familiar voice and there stood Hanbin with a bouquet of flowers in hand. Hanbin beams, flashing a smile that always takes Jinhwan's breath away. The younger makes his way to Jinhwan, pushing the bouquet into his chest.
"What's this?" Jinhwan fidgets with the bouquet, trying his very best to suppress his smile but it ends up wider, splitting his face in two, sheer excitement clear on his face.
"The least I can do for my favorite hyung." Hanbin replies, hand coming up to push Jinhwan's bangs out of his face. Scarlet hues stain his cheeks and Jinhwan shies away from Hanbin's touch. This makes Hanbin laugh, playfully pinching his boyfriend’s cheek.
"You're going to do fine. Everybody loves a Student President with a great ass." Hanbin says, palm resting against Jinhwan’s cheek. The older chuckles lowly, smacking Hanbin’s chest lightly.
" I think you're the only person who's shallow enough to vote a student president just because of his butt."
"You do have a great butt though. And also your campaign ideas are good. But you should've let me become your campaign manager instead of Minho hyung. I could come up with better ideas!"
Jinhwan snorts, rolling his eyes.
"No thanks, you'll probably print my nudes and paste them around the school as a part of a marketing strategy."
“Damn hyung, how did you know?” Hanbin states as a matter-of-factly.
“Kim Hanbin!” Jinhwan genuinely looks worried, thumping his fist against Hanbin’s chest. Hanbin chuckles, arms going around Jinhwan to draw him close, so that the older’s forehead leans against his chest.
“I’m kidding! Okay, okay. Relax. You’re going to do fine. My baby always does fine.”
And this is the part Jinhwan loves the most.
Hanbin might have an aloof demeanor and maybe he’s just a tad bit too serious all the time but when it comes to Jinwhan, he’s different.
Hanbin’s arms around him made him feel at ease. It made him feel at home. And it’s crazy because Jinhwan never thought he’d fall for this. Never did he thought that he’d fall for cold cut eyes and sadistic laughter. Never thought he’d fall for pointless jokes and immature pick up lines. Never thought he’d fall for a rowdy boy who’s rude and straight-forward at all the wrong times.
Never once did the thought of falling in love with Hanbin crossed his mind.
But he did. And he is glad he did.
Because he’s the cool water that extinguishes Hanbin’s flames of anger. Because he’s the bright light guiding Hanbin through a dark path of no end. Because he’s the anchor that’s holding Hanbin down to the ground but at the same time he’s the wings that Hanbin needs to go higher.
They can call it anything they want; teenage romance, puppy love. But Jinhwan knows that the love they share is real. And the love they share is true.
“Thank you, Hanbin. I feel so much better.” Jinhwan mutters into his boyfriend’s shirt and Hanbin presses his lips onto his forehead. He reluctantly pulls away from the hug, arms still around Hanbin’s waist. Hanbin frames Jinhwan’s face with his hands, thumbs caressing his cheeks.
“It’s okay. After the rally we shall go for bingsu okay? My treat!” Hanbin says cheerfully and Jinhwan can’t help but smile.
Hanbin helps Jinhwan to pack the last of his stuff in a box before carrying it for him. The younger boy also insists on carrying his backpack for him, saying that it will crease his shirt. Jinhwan actually has no choice but to give in. Before they leave the room, an idea cropped into his mind.
“Hanbin? I think we forgot something.”
“Everything’s in here already though, I double checked.” Hanbin seems pretty confident, even more ready than Jinhwan will ever be for his speech later on.
“Nah, I’m pretty sure you forgot something.” Jinhwan smirks at Hanbin’s panicked expression as he goes through the contents of the box again. Hanbin bites his lip in concentration, struggling to remember what he forgot. Suddenly he snaps his fingers.
“Oh, your campaign posters right? I swear it was here a moment ago… Wait let me check.”
Jinhwan clucks his tongue, giving up.
“Hanbin, come here.” Jinhwan gestures for him to come over and Hanbin places the box down on the floor before edging closer to his boyfriend. His heart jumps when Jinhwan tiptoes, slinging his arms around his neck, their faces close to each other. Is it possible for Jinhwan to get even more attractive? Hanbin thinks inwardly, observing every single bit of his face. His breathing quickens when Jinhwan leans closer, his lips ghosting over Hanbin’s.
“You forgot this.” And with that Jinhwan closes the space between them, pressing his lips against Hanbin’s. Soft and plump, that describes Jinhwan’s lips. Hot and slick, that describes Jinhwan’s mouth. And Hanbin knows he will never get tired of this.
Reluctantly they pull back and Hanbin leans his forehead against Jinhwan’s.
“How in the world did I forget that?” He grins and Jinhwan lightly slaps Hanbin’s cheek.
“Ouch, so mean to me, Student President.” Hanbin pouts and Jinhwan grimaces at his dumbness.
“Let’s go, idiot.”
“You love me.” Hanbin teases, poking Jinhwan’s cheek.
“I do.” Jinhwan smiles, eyes crinkling with mirth.
