Pumpkin Bread Title: Taste Like Pumpkin Bread
Donghae smiled as he was greeted by Sungmin, who immediately clung on his arm and asked for a dollar coin. “Sungmin, you’re already a teenage and yet, you still ask for a dollar coin.” Donghae complained but still gave a dollar coin to Sungmin.
“I’m a growing teenager who needs to eat lotsa food.” Sungmin said as he paid for the pumpkin bread and happily munched on it.
“I think you’re gaining fat.” Donghae poked on Sungmin’s tummy.
“I’m not!!!” Sungmin wiggled away from Donghae’s finger.
When they first met, Sungmin was only 6 years old and Donghae was 16 years old. Now, Sungmin had turned 14 and Donghae had turned 24. Donghae thought that it would only be one time when he bought a pumpkin bread for Sungmin. But then, he found himself coming to the bakeshop every Wednesday to be with Sungmin, who he had grown fond of.
“Donghae-hyung, have you had a crush before?”
“With this age, you think I haven’t experienced that?”
Sungmin had always been the one to start their conversation. He just randomly asks a question and their conversation would start from there and jump to one topic to another. “Hyung, don’t you think I’m old enough to have a love life?”
Donghae choked on his melon bread. “No, Sungmin.” He said, coughing a bit.
“When will I be old enough then?”
“After you graduate college.”
“EH?!?! That’s a loooooong time!!! You might be married already!!!”
“What does me getting married have something to do with you having a love life?”
“I want hyung to be my first boyfriend.”
Donghae choked again. His chest hurts from coughing too much. He was a thankful for the small comfort Sungmin did by patting his back. “Sungmin, are you serious?” Donghae asked when he wasn’t coughing anymore. Sungmin nodded in reply. “Do you realize that we are 10 years apart?” Sungmin simply nodded again. Donghae sighed. What was he suppose to do now?
“Hyung, it’s okay if you don’t like me back.” Sungmin hopped out of the chair. “Thanks for the dollar coin. See ya!!!”
Donghae watched as Sungmin left. When Donghae was about to leave, he noticed that there was a leftover pumpkin bread on Sungmin’s seat. For the first time since they met, Sungmin did not finish eating the pumpkin bread.
Although Donghae and Sungmin meet every Wednesday, there are some coincidences that they meet on other days and on other places. Today was Saturday. Donghae hanged out with his friends at the mall to see a movie. Coincidentally, Sungmin was there too…holding hands with a guy.
“Hae, are you okay?” One of Donghae’s friends asked.
“Of course, I’m okay. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“You seem to be glaring daggers towards the guy.”
“Really?” Donghae said dryly. He couldn’t contain his jealousy after all. Yes, he admit that he felt jealous. He was slightly angry towards Sungmin too. Wasn’t he the person that Sungmin liked? So why is Sungmin going out and holding hands with some other guy? Was Sungmin simply playing with his feelings or joking around the other day? Perhaps that’s why Sungmin said it was okay if he didn’t like Sungmin.
Next Wednesday came…
“Sungmin, didn’t you say you like me?”
“Yeah. Why?”
“I saw you holding hands with a guy at the mall last Saturday.”
Sungmin paused from eating his pumpkin bread and looked at Donghae meaningfully. “So?”
“Were you serious when you said you liked me?”
“Yeah.”
“Then why were you holding hands with the guy?” Donghae was trying his best to be as calm as possible but his voice still had a lace of anger and jealousy in it.
“That guy had been courting me for a few months already. Since you rejected me, I thought I should give him a chance.”
“But I didn’t reject you.”
“You did last Wednesday.”
“That wasn’t rejection.”
“Are you saying that you like me back? More than just a friend?”
There was silence for a long time but eye contact was maintained between the two of them. Donghae didn’t know what to answer but when Sungmin looked away, his hand reached out for Sungmin’s face. His hand forced Sungmin to look at him again. Then he found himself kissing Sungmin.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” Sungmin panted out as they broke the kiss.
“You eat too much pumpkin bread that you actually taste like one. The next kiss you’ll get from me will be after you graduate college.” Donghae teased.
“If that’s the case, then I’ll just go back to dating that guy…” Sungmin found himself being pulled for another kiss.
“If I see you holding hands with that guy or any other guy again, I’ll never give you a dollar coin again.” Donghae’s growl made it sound threatening although it wasn’t really much of a threat.
Sungmin laughed at Donghae’s threat. “Now, that’s really threatening.” He said in sarcasm.
THE END
A/N: This is what my plotless mind came up with. It’s been quite a while since I’ve written a story that has a lot of conversations in it. I tend to write just a narrative story with less conversation.
Also, I’m going on silent hiatus…which is probably not really silent anymore since I’ve announced it now. It’s hard for me to write, think of a good plot and update with my busy hospital duty.
If you have any ideas or plots for a story, you can share it here (I guess in a way I could say that you could request but I‘m not promising or anything and I might use your plot with another pairing). I’m in need of ideas and inspirations. Also, comments are my inspiration.
