First of all, I fell asleep at five in the morning, instead of staying up all night to reset my internal clock, because I couldn't get my coffee maker to work. My sister, Amber, gave me her old Gevalia maker, which is pretty gently used and very nice-looking, but requires cone-shaped filters that we didn't have.
So I fell asleep.
... And woke up at 10:30 in the morning, with a call from my brother, telling me he needs me to take him to Melissa's in an hour. I say okay ... and then fall back asleep. When it hits 11:30 and I actually have to drive him, I'm awake, but just barely. Very groggy, a little disoriented, and I can't quite keep my eyes open. Not the best driving conditions.
I came back home and within 30 minutes I get another call from my brother. Apparently, he'd taken his Wii to Melissa's, but no controllers. And no games. BRILLIANT. So I had to drive all the way back with his controllers and House of the Dead: Overkill, and what do I get? "FINALLY."
Teenagers.
At about 2:30 (here's where I get to shout "FINALLY" in a melodramatic fashion) I showered and headed out to Pennies. I was on the quest for a (possible) new birthday outfit, and being as I have no money, and Pennies is the only place I have credit, Pennies it was.
And I got something quite fabulous. But I'm almost too lazy to take pictures of it. We'll see, I guess.
Then, on my way back down the frontage road, I thought I'd check in at Shopko for Window Shoe Shopping - that being, shopping and trying on shoes without the intent to buy.
Here's where the funny part comes in.
I tried on the most AMAZING SHOES EVER. They were totally sexy, pink and black satin numbers, with this great cut that reminded me of cap-sleeved dresses, and when you put your feet in them it was satiny and DELICIOUS. And it felt like walking on air, despite the fact that they were four-inch spiked heels. Usually, anything above a three-inch is out of my league, spiked heels especially, because I have less-than-stellar balance and they really hurt, but, as I said, THESE WERE AMAZING. And and, they were $39.00 shoes on sale for $10. I LOVE IT.
... But, of course, they are a half-size too big. Damn.
I asked the saleslady if the possibly had the shoe in a smaller size, and she replied, "Well, actually these were a return from another store - "
Can you hear my spirits drop headfirst into the mud?
" - but I can check for you?"
Oh, and I got a little bit back! Just a little!
She comes back three minutes later and informs me, no, they do not have any of these in stock at Shopko. Or at any Payless in the city. Or in the district - which apparently encompasses all of Wisconsin> The more you know ...
Her reason? Those shoes, from the Lila Rose for Payless collection, are only delivered to the "high-end" (her words, not mine) Payless stores, and therefore Wisconsin stores don't get them.
Read: We live in White Trash County, and you ain't gettin' no fancy shoes in White Trash County.
I can get deer hunting boots, I can get cowboy boots in one of the furthest places from the southwest ... but not nice shoes.
I ALMOST DIED LAUGHING.
I took some quick cell-phone pictures before I went, and mourned the loss. Here, mourn with me:
GAH THEY WERE SO FAB-AH-LUS.
I bought these instead, and while they, too, are indeed fabulous, they are not AS fabulous.
Although, I haven't decided if the ruffles are fabulous. They are easily removed, but if I do so, they aren't going back on.
LE SIGH.
And then I came home and made a latte with whipped cream on top and felt a whole lot better. Pick up some coffee from Maui if you can, because it is very tasty. :)
