"The Battle" The Next Generation: Episode 8, Season 1, Discussion and rant

I realize this is a fairly insignificant episode in the grand scheme of things, but I came across it in my efforts to try and watch some if not all of The Next Generation.  It has some tendencies that are unacceptable for me, so I'm going to rip it to shreds.
